Oil & Fuel Rust clogging fuel filter

/ Rust clogging fuel filter #11
Had surging and poor performance last week. Checked sight glass on fuel bowl- critters in the bottom.
Removed & cleaned.
Runs like new again.

Check and see if there’s a tank drain on your tractor. If there is, park it when it’s low on fuel and let it sit a day or 2. Partially Open the drain over a 5 G bucket. See what comes out.

You don't clean a fuel filter, you replace it!

Does your tractor have a metal tank? Most of the new ones are plastic. If it is metal it's rusting from water in the fuel. Condensation causes the water to get in so until you deal with that water will be a recurring problem. Do you have a water separator in the fuel delivery system or just the filter.? If you have just a filter is there a drain at the bottom of the filter canister? If so, get a clear container and drain a cup of fluid from it. Let it sit and see if there is a layer of water below the fuel. If there is than drain it daily until you find no more water.
I'm betting he's talking about the water separator not the actual fuel filter.
