Now we have the underlying cause; rusted from the inside jamming up the threads. Oil floats on top of water, and the drain is the low point; so,wouldn't take much free water to create rust especially with a good dose of the products of combustion which are acidic. Kando didn't have a ghost of a chance on this one.

A pipe wrench grips much tighter vice grips. Had the op skipped the vice grips and the channel locks and went straight to the pipe wrench and he knew how to use a pipe wrench the plug would be out already.

He did skip the vice grips and bought a new pipe wrench on the suggestion of several members.

And just for the record, the more "rounded off" the work object is the better the pipe wrench is going to work. After all it works perfectly on round pipe and round pipe fittings now doesn't it?
So instead of getting the plug out, he first needs to bung it up more? I have yet to see a nut or bolt which actually "rounds" when the corners wear off. Usually they become more oval shaped.
^^^^^^ What he said !!!
Since we have to round it off first, why not try the one tool which he hasn't used? If nothing else, it will make the plug so that the pipe wrench works. :D

I still would opt for the "call for help"; preferably somebody with a Mig, who knows how to use it. I don't remember if Kando said he was the last person to change the fluid; but I can't help wondering if somebody might have used some good old fashioned "Loctite Red" on it.

That is until it grinds enough off and gets so small it just breaks off. Then; back to drilling it out.

Cut us old guys some slack; we have a hard time remembering all the stuff we read through 1775 posts. Who knows, the additives to transmission fluids may add acid to the water also or is Kando's tractor so old it uses 30 or 40 weight motor oil for transmission oil. Some of the old farm tractors used the motor oil sump as source for hydraulic fluid. Helped a guy once that had one of those. He claimed that the thicker the oil got the better the 3 point worked. He had a FEL for it but never put it on the trator.
