Rotten Egg Smell

Gear oil smells like that. I just changed the 80-90W oil in the tranny/rear end of my 1949 JD B tractor. Spilled some of it on my work pants and boots. Pants have been laundered so the smell is gone there, but the boots still stink.

john_bud might have called it right.

Rotella has been blamed for a lot of that. Your tractor, if it's not real new, will have a blowby tube that vents the crankcase to the atmosphere. It probably runs from the valve cover to down near the pan an is open tube. It will be venting all the time the engine is running.

If you are overcharging your battery it will be bubbling and using water. That would be a serious overcharge if you could smell it later with the engine running.

It could be the type of diesel? Gas stations usually sell low sulfur road fuel which is subject to road tax. Higher sulfer content fuel can emit a stronger smell of sulfur which can give you the rotten egg smell? If so then its nothing to worry about I think.
