Grapple Root grapple - build or buy??

I have posted this before, I picked up a tomahawk 66" single lid for $650 ish at a Richey Brothers auction. I have been very happy with it so far. I would think that by the time you buy a cylinder, hoses & fittings, and all the steel you would be around $500. You still have to cut, weld, and assemble it, so how much is your time worth? I am all for building attachments if it's cost effective.

I have a CNC plasma table 5x10. I am thinking of cutting out kits with everything you need, is right there all you have to do is weld it. What is your opinion? The cost for a 60 inch would be about 500 plus shipping.

Everything Attachments played with this idea several years ago. There's a long thread documenting a kit build they gave to one member and he built it. It came out well but I don't think EA ever commercialized selling kits.

I for one am coming into retirement age.How much is my time worth ? Well working in my shop with the radio on,building something then having the wife yell out lunch is on is very appealing to me.I will more or less be on a fixed income with no more job overtime to buy toys. But if I could build "stuff" reasonable even if it takes time is still a savings.I would much rather be out puttering on my property than laying on the couch in a development watching the boob tube.Just my .02.

Well it's been 10 years since I started this thread. My wife says I'm a procrastinator. She said that 10 years ago and it's the same wife now. I still don't have a grapple and I still haven't cleared the sand lot I needed the grapple for. I did start a business which takes up all my spare time but man time flies.

Hey, it takes time to make a decision on a grapple. Ease up on yourself..

Bwahahahaha! It's been almost 10 years since I've been wanting a grapple... I just ordered the hoses to run from my rear remotes to my FEL for it.. Once I get that installed, I'll be looking at ordering the grapple.. I wonder how long it's going to be for me to actually order the grapple?
