Just starting work on a new home and expecting to put mucho hours on a new CC8454 w/ FEL and Hoe. Have had years of experiance on large FEL w/Family business but little time on a hoe. Will have no problem picking up the controls but would like to know if any of you could point me in the right direction to learn some proper techniques. Plan on trenching for electric along driveway 1600+ ft mostly uphill and dig septic system along with loading all the bank run gravel to build the driveway. Biggest concern is best/safest technique for digging along the fairly long uphill driveway for the utilities. Any thoughts/links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Here are some great books on Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) operating techniques such as Lift Roll Reset and trench jumping etc.
1. Operating Techniques for the Tractor-Loader- Backhoe By Gary J. Ober
Everybody with a BH should read this. This is a trade school text book.
2. Backhoe Loader handbook. By Reinor Christian.
Good stuff less pictures than above.
I think the first 2 are great books with a lot of basic and advanced info.
This next one is more for planning construction projects that require excavation.

Based on your recommendation, I went to Amazon and bought Gary Ober's book. As a first time tractor, FEL & BH owner the $30 for the used book should be money well spent. I need to better understand how to trench around my house foundation to lay curtain drain and other projects, no sense in reinventing the wheel as well knowing how to work/ operate the machine safely.

Your reply to TBN101 was appreciated,
