It is disheartening that there are people who are so naive to think the government wont run healthcare.

Insurance company bashing is as one sided and just as inaccurate as dealer bashing. No details, just whining and the usual vague 'black helicopter' rantings.

Mike - I have no doubt the government will run health care and that, to me, is very scary ! Name one thing....Just one, the government has run profitably.

C'mon Mike Your'e being so pessimistic.
Look at all the GOOD things that the Federal government has done:
Social Security(Ooops almost out of money)
Medicare(Ooops again)
Income tax(Well it did START out at one page)
The Post Office(I never seem to get enough junk mail!)
FAA(Relax, your pilot can now be on Prozac, new rule!)
Homeland Security(C,mere Granma you look suspicious)
Treasury Dept(If don't pay your taxes, please apply for a job)
Energy Dept(Lets see, their mandate was to reduce dependence on foreign oil, 35 years ago, a real success !)
Congress(just in general:)
The list goes on ad nauseum.

Just an example of what is really wrong...If I want insurance and I am going to pay for it, which is the way it should be, then I should be able to decide what coverage I want just like when I buy insurance for my vehicles.

I don't want abortion , pregnancy, mental health, additiction, etc. coverages...Say I just want a catastrophic policy that will cover me and my family for a major health event and I will pay for the doctors visits and prescriptions..It is not available...the government and insurance companies have taken folks who want to pay their way and pay just for their coverage out of the market to shift the cost to cover the poor or those unwilling to work. It is now one size fits all and you pay the price. There is no negotiating about price with anyone anymore, only fear that maybe you won't be able to buy coverage and that scenario does not make a market but it does lend itself to price fixing and that is where we are. Take from those that have and give to those who don't have and won't work for it..That is sad and that is communisim in my opinion and I want no part of it.

Well, see YOU should have had a senator who could have gotten the "Georgia" exception, like Ben Nelson did for
Nebraska.
C'mon LET"S MAKE A DEAL!

C'mon LET"S MAKE A DEAL! " > Yep- that's the problem....but that's OK we have a Governor who is going to file suit to stop this from applying us Georgians ..we'll see how that goes...Living history in the making now..

The closest you can get to a plan like that is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), we have one with a $6000ish/year deductible. the way it works is that up to $x ($3000ish in our plan) we pay 100% for anything (other than scheduled preventive checkups). Between $3000 and $6000 (out of OUR pocket) the ins co pays 75% of the cost and above $6000 the ins co pays 100% of everything but prescriptions (which they pay 75% of).
Prescriptions, Dr visits, etc count towards the deductible.
We also have a Health Savings Account which lets us put $250ish/month (pretax) into a savings account to be used for medical expenses. This money can be used for dental and other medical expenses and we have it instead of a dental plan (for now).

There ya go ! If we all went to what you have and took some responsibility for our own health care we would be better off. The Elderly ( only - eliminate others who should not be on medicare ) that are on Medicare had no choice...they have been forced for years just like with social security to pay into these programs and they deserve exactly what was promised to them since they were given no choice as to where to invest their money. If the government had not forced folks to pay all their lives into social security and medicare then there is no telling how well off they might be today , left to their own investment choices. So they, at a minimum are entitled to the minimal program all their hard earned dollars they paid in will bring them in their old age. Bottom line in my view...everyone should be left to make their own choices and we would have a free and competitive market in all areas of commerce including health care.

Insurance companies won't insure old people, people who have pre-existing conditions and in some cases even people with insurance who become sick. In fact, if you're not double or triple covered and you require medical care, it's increasingly likely you'll be dissatisfied with your medical insurance policy.

The notion that left to its own devices the unfettered, free market would somehow solve this is ideological fantasy. It's blue skies, healthy forests, drill baby drill, tax cuts pay for themselves, Frank Luntz/Art Laffer garbage.

Our system costs double (almost triple the UK's) what others are paying around the world, leaves fifty million uninsured and produces mediocre results.

The system stifles our cost competitiveness, burdens taxpayers, industry and consumers, increases bankruptcy rates, promotes fear and anxiety and is responsible for tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths every year.

We should have dumped this turd fifty years ago.

It's about time we did something about it.

Other than your opinion, do you have ANYTHING that you can point that would validate ANY of your statements.I'll return the favor, as you asked me on another post: Show me your sources.

One interesting thing, we are spending the same as we were last year in an HMO plan (if you count premiums and the HSA) but we are slightly less likely to go to the doctor "just in case" than we would have before (even though it doesn't cost anything extra due to the HSA).
As a comparison, I was talking the the receptionist at our family doctor and we got onto the subject of the upcoming "Healthcare Reform" and he said that of those who came in, the most "wasteful" patients are those on medicaid. He said that they do not have to pay a copay and as a result, they come in for every little sniffle as soon as they get it without waiting to see if it develops into anything serious and as such, waste lots of the doctors time with things that will go away in a few days without any medical intervention.
