Very good point! Never thought of that.

On another note, I already had a scare earlier this year when my lugnuts on my truck came loose even though I tightened them to spec.

Go to find out the tapering on them was distorted because of wear and tear. They got over 200k and probably have been taken off and put back on over 100x and beat to well... crap.

After that happened, I ordered up a new set for all 4 corners. Don't need to have my wheels flying off doing 65 on the interstate...

So yes, that is another good suggestion!

The tapered face on the wheel bolt holes is a critical part of the design. They play a large part in centering the wheel on the hub.

However you do the reversal, consider using washers and putting the nuts on backwards so their tapered face is not distorted.

If you don't do this, you are often plagued with wheel nuts which wont stay tight.

It also changes the loading on the front wheel bearings and support structure. Standing in front of the tractor while the wheels are in the narrow position, look at how the wheel is centered over the two wheel bearing as well as how it sits in relation to the "down turn portion" of the axle and pivot points. In the "narrow" position I bet you will see it more centered under this structure. In the wide position you will notice it puts more pressure on the outer wheel bearing as well as no longer being aligned under the pivoting portion.

I tried mine in the wide position for a while. My checkbook objected loudly but I guess on the positive side, I did make some friends at the Kubota parts counter.
