Hey Peter , I’ll see if I can get the clutch off tomorrow and measure the shaft . I’ll be sure to reply . The machine is somewhat of a novelty but when I’m trimming branches it’s kinda nice to throw them in the chipper rather than putting them in a pile for later . Love to get this thing working .

If I had that chipper and the engine croaked, I'd put a hydraulic motor on it and power it with my PowerTrac.

I've been keeping my eye open for a small chipper with a dead engine. They aren't real popular around these parts, though.

Recommended Briggs engine replacement is a 15T212-0160-F8 1 x 2 57/64 crankshaft with 1/4 in keyway and 3/8-24 threaded List for $310 through the Briggs dealer network.

Very good price, and the manufacturers complain that the dealer like myself don't sell enough engines. What do they expect when you can buy a new engine on Amazon for dealer cost.

Yep. That's something. As I grew up, I remember learning about the manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer chain and always wondered why there was that middleman, or middlemen sometimes. When my eyes opened was when I took a temporary job at a wholesale florist when I was 25-26 years old. We'd buy a carton of carnations and they came in bunches of 25. We'd sell a bunch of 25 carnations to a florist for $15. That means we paid less than $15, or we wouldn't make a profit. When I'd buy 12 carnations for my wife at a florist, they'd charge me $15. So the florist paid $15 and got $30 for selling 2 dozen and had 1 left over to sell individually or put in an arrangement, etc...

Wheels started turning in my head.

- The grower grew it and marked it up.
- The wholesaler bought it and marked it up.
- The florist bought it and marked it up.

It more than doubled in price just in the last step. How much did it go up in the first 2? :confused2:

So I checked the shaft and it’s 1” . Length looks to be just under 3” . Based on that this motor will work and it’s a great price . Now my concern is the key way . It is 1/4 on my motor and clutch pulley. The amazon motor specs state 3/8 . Any way around that ?

I checked northern tool with the model #s given me and the same motor listed on amazon specs 1/4” for the key way . Am I loopy or is this more confusing than it should be .

Amazon may simply be wrong. Or they may have an oddball some 3rd party is trying to get rid of.

I think you are confusing the 3/8 listed as the keyway but they are referring to the threaded bolt hole is 3/8 From the specs I listed in my previous post it has the 1/4 keyway and all my specs came straight from the Briggs dealer portal website.
