removing the MMM

People hear all kinds of things but most of it is not true and neither is this. There are drive over decks, the MMM for the 7500 etc are not drive over--well--go ahead and you will see what happens. Maybe drive into the pond some and then spray it all down with diesel fuel--sounds like a plan for disaster to me /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif but go right ahead /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I seem to have no problem pulling or pushing the deck into place. What I have a problem with is attaching the PTO. I just remember having to lay in just the right position, reach in there and start cussin'. After the last time I dread taking it off. Any ideas? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I put a little 3 wheel dolly under the back center wheels and the MMM rolls very nicely on the concrete floor.

I used to position the PTO into place and when it wouldn't go I would use one hand to turn the blade on the deck. What a pain in the butt, but oh well, the old Yardman didn't even have a PTO.
About a year later I discovered if I change the PTO selector to point to the rear PTO only, the MMM PTO spins freely and self-aligns everytime I attach the MMM PTO. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The opposite goes for hooking up rear implements. Change the selector to MMM PTO only when hooking up to the rear PTO and everything is so much nicer.

One last tip. Silicone Spray or WD-40 on the PTO splines instead of grease. I original thought it best to keep it greased up, but there is too much drag and dirt collection. Live and learn.

The problem that I have with my 60 inch mmm (BX2200) is that it is hard to rotate the left rear anti-scalp roller 90 degrees to roll the deck out. When I try to rotate the wheel it hits on the tractor tire. I have the reverse problem when I re-install the deck.

Does anyone have a trick to eliminate that problem? I have Ag tires and my deck is adjusted according to the manual.

I have the same problem with my turf tires. I just drop the deck slightly, and then it can be rotated easily.

I've tried that but there is still not enough room to rotate the wheel. The dealer told me that the Ag tires are bigger and there is no fix for the problem unless you adjust the front of the mower higher than spec.

John, I have the bar tires and have no problem turning that rear wheel once I lower the deck about half way. "Just a little" will not do it...

I have the B2910 w/72"MMM and the manual does in fact say that you can drive over the deck to mount/dismount the mower. Here is the procedure straight out of the mower manual.

1. Attach the front link to the deck.
2. Set the mower deck to the minimun cutting height.
3. Put chocks at the mower guage wheels.
4. Drive over the mower forward. 
5. Then it goes on to tell you to attach the linkages and PTO shaft.

But, I don't do that, I usually have my FEL on for something or other, so I use that to raise the tractor, then take the FEL off for mowing. But I may try to see if I can use my floor jack to make it easier. I'm always in favor of easier. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was not saying it was the right thing to do. I surly don't do it with mine but I can tell you they thing out lasted him. Diesel is oil and that surly is what stoped the rust and it got greesed all the time. he used diesel for everything even cuts. I don't remember the deck size but it looked a lot like my 60 inch deck and I don't think it was meant to be drove over but he did it. I think it was 10 years old most likely more. These things are not nearly as brittle as people make them out to be.
He used it as a tractor the way old timers used tractors. He have that thing heck and it just seemed to ask for more.That is what sold me on Bota
