I just learned tonight while brush hogging that I can remove the key from the ignition in the "run" position while my tractor is running. I found out because somewhere along the line while hogging the key must have been pulled out by a tree branch or something. I went to shut the machine down...and there was no key! Luckily I found the key on the floor and was able to shut her down. Now I have the key on a lanyard and start the machine with it and then put it around my neck so I know where it is when it is time to turn off.

I assume this is NOT normal, right?

Got a key for my truck that you can pull out and it stays running. Just wore a lot. A new key you can't do the same with it.:)

I'll have to check my Kubota, but I'm pretty sure I can turn off the ignition and remove the key and the engine will continue to run. Also, I know I can shut off the engine without turning the key off. I have a manual, spring loaded, fuel cutoff lever to stop the engine. I've been told when I bought it that if the key is on, the hour meter will run even if the engine is not running.

Also, I tie a bright red ribbon to the key ring in case I drop the key. I use red because I haven't found international orange ribbon.
