regenerative hydraulics for a log splitter?

Do any members know how to design a regenerative hydraulic system? It would need to be pressure based system which would automatically unload once the cylinder encountered the work. The unload pressure would be 2-300 psi. The thing that is tripping me up is that the regenerative system can not be based in the control valve, it needs to a external valve. Things like hose routing and part numbers would be needed.

It's an interesting idea, but would would like to know more about how you want the splitter to work in its cycle with this.

Well, that could be a problem. I don't know enough about hydraulic design to know if there will be a problem or not. Basically, my desire is to have the ram come forward as a regenerative circuit until it starts to build pressure. Then a pressure sensitive check valve will close and the circuit will function normally. I know that this is very do-able for a standard log splitter. I don't know how it will work with the autocyle valve. Even for a standard log splitter, I don't know what the circuiting or components are, I just know that it's do-able.

A regenerative circuit ties the piston side of the ram together with the rod side so the actual piston speed is greater than what the pump output is. Some loader valves have a regenerative circuit on the bucket dump. This lets the bucket roll very quickly.
