I am looking for any information that is out there in regards to a Goulds or Myers reciprocating well water pumps. These units are very old (1950's vintage) but still useable if I can find a few misc parts for them. I know that some dealer out there has some parts laying around in his/her storeroom.

This is a surface type. Usually ran with a 1/4HP electric motor but could be used with a 1HP gas engine. This type of pump could lift water 30 FT vertical because it has a positive displacment. I need to rebuild one so it can be used in conjunction with a bicycle to deliver drinking water to a family that lives off the power grid.

Wondering about this. Why not the old fashioned pump with the pump handle?:D

they generally are to slow/require to much effort to pump a families water need for an entire day not to mention any additional irrigation water they might want.

Either method relies on human power.:D

You only get water till the power source goes dead!:)

One of my plumbers that works with me is in the process of building a hunting cabin. It is " off the grid". He is going solar and a gas gen. He has a battery bank and using an RV pump, There are 12V submersibles also. I think Northern Tool has a pretty large section of Solar goodys.

I would go Diesel instead of gas for the generator. Diesel fuel can be stored MUCH longer (the ethanol-laced fuel that is so prevalent these days has a shelf life about about 30 days), and more efficient. I would also recommend picking up a small diesel engine and running high-AMP automotive alternator with it to charge the batteries for the solar power system.

I use a 200A 24V bus alternator with a 4HP Yanmar diesel engine (yes, the engine is too small to provide more than 100A out of this, but charing current is WAY less than this) to change the batteries for my emergency backup power system, which comprises of two Xantrex 3600W inverters that are "stacked" to provide 7200W 240/120V service (I need 240V to run my well pump). I can run this DC generator setup to charge the batteries when they get low. It will run on about 1/8 gal/hour. The batteries can charge in about 8 hours. I estimate that I can run my refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and heating system (hot-water baseboard with pellet boiler, and fuel oil backup) for about 2 gallons of Diesel fuel per day with this setup.

Thanks for all the great advice and help. I have found a web site called Smoke Stack and say what a great source of info on old stuff. I ordered and have received and installed the parts I was looking for.
