Re: Canadian Prices

Guys,

I just wanted to see what the current state is here in Canada regarding our prices for Kubota's, MF's, and JD's

Very shortly I will be hitting the pavement looking for deals and I was wondering if our prices have come down more in line with the US yet. The last time I look a few months ago, I found the following:

Kubota - Not competitive on pricing at all. Operating as if the dollar is still 65 Cents. Did get a cash price for a base BX24 at $20,800 but it is a far cry from the $15,500 I see in the US. There is someone here in Ontario importing them and selling them for around $16,000. No warranty but $4000 is a fair amount of money.

MF - Dealers tell me their pricing is based on the US dollar, then give me a quote for a base GC2310 of $22,800 before taxes. I look on machine trader in the US and I see them for around $14,800. Do they not know about the Internet?

JD - Great local dealer when it comes to dealing with them. Pricing on a 2305TLB was still high. I like the Kubota and MF better as they seem more purpose built. JD offers their warranty in Canada from US purchased machines so I find it odd that their prices are still high here as there is no gotcha on picking one up in the US.

I would like to buy local but I am finding it hard to justify when I look at the numbers.

Cheers,

Re: Canadian Prices

I ordered a JD 5425 in late January with a build date of mid-March. The quoted price at the time was the US price plus 2% exchange to Canadian funds. So, the cost was very close to the US price. One benefit is John Deere will cap the exchange at time of purchase, so if the exchange becomes favorable, ie. stronger Canadian dollar by the time of delivery, I get refunded the difference. If lower, I don't have to pay more.

Re: Canadian Prices

I travel to Canada from the states fairly often and all I can say is everything is more expensive and it seems nothing has been repriced to compensate for the changes in exchange rates. I had to purchase a product to help a customer debug something. I figured I could by it from the Canadian division of a US company to avoid brokerage and shipping fees. Same item listed in the states by the same MFG was 25% more. Hotels, rental cars, food, items in Costco all more. Books are one of the worst things.

I will be starting my search again shortly. Thank you for your input. I will post up my results when I get some real numbers.

Re: Canadian Prices

Hi,

South western Ontario ---

Kubota --- out of the ball park unless you buy from the guy who imports

Massey --- Marsh offers at $19900 ( list ) for the 2310 and someone has them for $18800.

John Deere 2305 --- darn near as bad as the Kubota's

Should have been at the farm show as they had a Landini ( TLB ) for around $22k but was alot more HP.

Yes, Canadian prices are still very high compared to the U.S.

Probably best deal around me is a CK20 gear ( with loader and 5 yr warranty)
for $13900.

Good luck on your search.

Have a good one

Tom

Fellow Canadians:

I have found John Deere prices to be comparable to those list prices shown in U.S. dollars on the web. Of course, this is with dealer discounts etc. As an example, I was quoted $18,000.00 for a 2320 with loader, 60" mmm (drive over deck), imatch, and loaded tires. This includes set up and delivery. Taxes are extra. Kubota did not appear to have adjusted their prices to take into account the Canadian dollar to the same extent. I do know that Deere had a price adjustment in Oct/Nov of 2007. Kubota adjusted their prices to some degree in December, 2007. Apparently, Kubota will have further adjustments coming down the pipe next week. Lets hope they adjust these prices down further.

jcaledon:

Are you saying that the Canadian price after discount is equal to the US price on the web before discount - or that both prices after discount are about the same?

For JD, since warranty coverage is NA wide, if one is so inclined they can purchase from a place like Mutton who will arrange shipping at a nominal charge.

Canoetrpr:

The answer is somewhere in the middle. The price that I was quoted (which included setup, freight, delivery etc., basically everything except PST and GST) was roughly the same as the JD web site price in U.S. dollars, which does not include set up delivery etc. I'm sure that if I was buying the machine in the U.S. I would be able to get a better price - maybe 5-7% less. But then I would have the hassle of having to buy a tractor from someone other than the dealer that's 10 minutes from my home. For $1,000.00, in my case, I don't think that its worth it. If the difference were $3-4,000.00 then I would consider buying in the States.

I'm not sure in terms of the difference as it relates to Kubota, since they don't publish their prices like John Deere does.

The sales taxes will likely be less in the States, however, I believe that GST and PST would be applicable on U.S. tractor purchases coming over the boarder - but no duties (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this).

Am I totally off side on this? I'm all for saving money, so if someone can tell me that I would be able to get a 2320 for significantly less by going south of the boarder, please let me know. I'm cheap - so I don't mind driving to get a deal!

Re: Canadian Prices

I bought my BX24 in December /07 just when the price adjustment began. Paid 16,600 plus tax. A good deal. This is in Nova Scotia. dealer about 50 miles away had it on for 19900.00. Rip off.

Re: Canadian Prices

Tractors purchased in Canada with 60 pto hp or above are GST exempt. If I bought the same 5425 in the US and imported it I would have to pay both taxes and I would not have been eligible for the Equine Canada Members Plus rebate program which amounts to 23% off list. I would have payed a lot more for the tractor if I purchased it in the US.

One thing I like about JD is they are up front about pricing, it's not a mystery. You can spend hours on the Deere.com website spec'ing out different models/options and seeing what the results are.

When it was time to buy, I had a pretty good idea what I wanted and how much it was going to cost. Kubota, NH, MF couldn't touch it.

Re: Canadian Prices

jcaledon - give Mutton Power a call or send them a note. They are pretty responsive and will ship right to your door. You can easily expect to get 10 to 12% off the configured price based on the JD website.

Worth giving them a call to see what they quote you.

Personally, so long as the price is within a couple of thousand of dollars, I would buy locally. Much more than that and I would go looking. You sure you don't want a nice orange one like mine :) B.E. Larkin seems to be quoting great deals these days!

Re: Canadian Prices

canoetrpr,

Thanks for the heads up in terms of Mutton. I may just do that. In terms of orange v. green, I haven't made my mind up as of yet. I did stop by B.E. Larken, and they are working on a price for the new B2620 for me. Right now, the list price for a new B is about the same as a JD2320, when IMO it should be a few thousand less. The machines spec out almost the same (the JD is a little stronger) but the Kubota is missing many of the premium features found on the JD. I think that the JD compares more closely with the B2630, and not the B2620. Much of this has to do with the fact that Kubota did not adjust their prices as much as JD did last fall. Apparently, Kubota will be making further adjustments next week. I'm hoping that this will bring the Kubota price down by about $1500. If that's the case, I will have a real decision to make. I really like the three speed hydro. But if they are the same price, it is a no brainer for me - I will go with the Deere.

I keep on reading here on TBN that green paint is expensive, but up here in southern Ontario, it's actually the opposite (for the moment at least).

One more thing - I want to thank those who pointed me in the direction of B.E.Larkin. They have been working hard to get me a machine at a price that I'm comfortable with. No matter what color I go with I know that I will be dealing with a first rate dealer. Green Tractors (Nobleton Farm Service - speak to Daryl) and B.E. Larkin (speak to Josh) have been first rate. It took me a while to find a Kubota dealer that I was comfortable with - but all is well that ends well.

Re: Canadian Prices

That sounds like a good deal. I'm from NS show maybe I should go back home to buy my tractor. I'm going to hit the streets soon here in Ottawa for prices. I hope to find the same.

Cheers,

I`m a "newbie" and trying to learn and suck it all in.....23% discount!!..Excellent learning and knowledge based web site for us " trainees". Can you explain what the Equine Canada Members Plus rebate program is and whats required to comply ?...23% discount PLUS no tax if over 60 HP?
Tks

Re: Canadian Prices

jcaledon - you are quite right about prices in Southern Ontario - Green vs. Orange.

Primarily because Kubota has not lowered their prices. Although I'm quite hear that when you hear back from Josh you will have a pretty good price. He priced me out a GL 3540 in Dec and the price was pretty close to what I could get it in for in the USA - within a couple of thousand anyway.

Hi Beaverhouse,
If you are an Equine Canada member and run a "full time" horse operation such as boarding stable, breeder, racing stable etc. you are eligible for up to a 23% discount on John Deere products. Other associations are involved too. AQHA and others.

Just google "equine canada members first" and you will get a list of participating members. Sherwin Williams and Dodge are also included. Guess who's products I'll be re-staining the barn with?

The GST thing influenced us a bit in that - why pay GST if you don't have to. You can claim it back if you have a GST number though. We don't. That ruled out tractor models that didn't quite hit the 60 pto hp mark such as Kioti DK65, Kubota M6040, JD 5325, MF3625, 3635. The JD 5425 is 65 pto. The offer says "up to 23% off msrp" depending on model, so I was naturally skeptical about what sort of discount we would actually get. I was surprised that our dealer actually knocked 23% off!

The catch is you don't qualify for low rate JDC financing. You have to weigh the difference between what your best (non-EQ) deal off msrp that the dealer is willing to negotiate (maybe 10 to 12%) and taking low rate financing. Depending on terms, you have to decide which is the better route for you.

Anyway, this put it a lot cheaper than a Kubota M7040 (62 pto hp) - nice but the price practically gave me cardiac arrest. Also, keep in mind, any implements that you order with the tractor at time of purchase, assuming it is over 60 pto hp, are also tax exempt.
Happy hunting:)

Re: Canadian Prices

Actually, my farrier just bought a Kubota M7040 ROPS that was "aged inventory" from "some dealer way up north somewhere". Got a pretty good deal from the sound of it, but probably was somewhat weathered.

So, a lot of "the thrill of the hunt" is being in the right place at the right time too. It was probably the same unit that my local Kubota dealer mentioned to me. If it had been a cab, who knows, I may have ended up with it instead.

Re: Canadian Prices

One good/bad thing about the high Kubota prices up here, is that it allows me to dream about selling my L3400 privately and getting the benefit of a lower price by either buying a JD4320 cab or a GL4240HSTC from whereever I can get the best deal / dealer combo.

That said, I would want a 6ft bush hog and have to sell my 5 footer, a 6 ft blower with hydraulics and have to selll my 5.5ft one, a 4n1 bucket etc. The bill would be ummmm high.

I think I'll live vicariously through the rest of you that are doing your purchasing.

Re: Canadian Prices

Josh at Larkin has given me the best quotes I have had. He's top drawer I think.

Kubota apparently has spring specials coming out soon. I want to have a look at them.
