Ratchet strap ends

Our area has a "tool and rigging" that custom makes and repairs all straps and also our shoe repair place does too. Ask around.

I have repaired strap ends using rivets and washers and even short bolts and it holds fine. I don't use them for tie downs after that kind of repair, but they work fine for pull straps in my RTV 900/tractor when I need to hook up to a log to drag it a ways or to drag my stuck in the mud lawnmower to dry ground. There is lots of uses for a worn out tie down that don't involve a liability suit if failure occurs.

As for taking a strap for stitching at a repair facility, I wouldn't if price is anything like my shoe repair a few days ago. For about 1/2" of stitching on one shoe, $7. Kinda makes the cost of new stand out as best route forward.

There's an eBay vendor that I buy from occasionally that specializes in towing/cargo type items. I think I'll save the ratchets, toss the loose hookless straps and get some replacement straps with a couple different type ends on them.

Cut your oldest tow strap and use that for one long or two short replacement straps.

Send them to me, I will sew them up for you for free...... Oh wait the cost of the shipping would outweigh the cost of whole new units... I guess Moss had a point.

Got some new stuff coming from a vendor I've dealt with before. Free shipping. Chris is right. Sometimes the old stuff just isn't worth the time & money.
I'll still be utilizing the old ratchets. Just got some new looped ends for them and a few other goodies to add to the heavier duty tie down collection.

Are the slots in the ratchets wide enough to put BOTH ends through? You might still be able to bundle stuff that way...just a thought.

Another thought is a bowline knot. You can make loops that won't come loose and are easy to untie. I have tied them in broken toe straps and yanked out trucks and was still able to easily untie the knot.

You could always put a rachet at both ends............................. 1 strap two rachets nice and tight from both ends..........

Cheers
