Maybe so but I think Granger LAST if I absolutely can't find it ANYPLACE else.

Just speculating from dis end, but pretty close to willing to bet a buck yer too young to remember days when no wholesaler would sell direct to general public.

Back in 60s I managed to get hands on a outdated Grainger book dat was replaced by current issue. Spent many hours paging thru dat encyclopedia learning about things I had no idea of and came away wiser for de time spent.
Years dat followed I even managed to get hands on one of der larger RETAIL priced books for merchants to use selling to end users. Good place to learn fersure.

Got to know manager of 1 branch back in 70s, learned up on how Grainger worked. Back den everybody started shelving incoming stock & moved up from. Manager level was a few years off, but by time you got der you knew de branch and how company functioned. From Manager you could keep climbing ladder but you gonna relocate to do it. Manager had a lot of latitude how he ran his branch.

Fellow I knew stuck his neck out and hired man who had terrible stutter. Didn't much matter to putting on shelves. Fellow worked up system and pulled will call for few more years and eventually moved to working counter. Stutter went away as time went on. Customers knew dey didn't get abusive or der take a number ticket last one of de day. Way things should be in (removed)'s book.

Company used to have annual move dead stock sale. Supposed to be open to employees only. OK, employees got friends. Got 3500 watt Briggs engine generator set and table saw back then no employee wanted. Paid cheap for em too.

Today Grainger different place I got no need of. Got 2 branches in Rochester and still growing as city dies. Parts I might need available on line delivered to my door.

Actually, the USPS has used regional sorting hubs for quite some time now. All mail, even to local addresses goes to a hub about 100 mi away...the only exception is mail dropped into the "local" slot at the actual post office.
Agreed that the USPS is still very inefficient, unfortunately there isn't much that can be done within it's existing charter. Congress would need to act to allow the changes that are necessary to move forward, and that's not likely to happen anytime soon. Witness the ruckus anytime the postmaster general even suggests closing a small branch.




Remains to be seen what happens once the covid situation is under control. On line shopping is here to stay, brick and mortar stores have been on the decline for years now. While Amazon, Fedex, etc. stocks may not see the same gains moving forward that they've seen this year my guess is that there won't be a collapse in their values either.




Not a big problem here. Glad I don't live in the city.

No local mail slot here anymore. All mail goes about 70 miles away to Evansville In & gets sorted there. Then it comes back to the local PO for in town delivery.

Dont know if its a trend in other post offices but most around here no longer have a local mail slot or outside box marked as so.

I've noticed the same thing, in mine or a couple of others where I sometimes use their services.

I use Grainger to get product number then my wife gets it through Imperial Supplies cheaper but Grainger owns them go figure......

I use to use the Olympia WA branch before they closed it.

In a pinch you can pay to have manager open store after hours

Calling the Hawaii branch which is open much later due to time difference could do system parts trace..

Friend in Hawaii would call East Coast wee hours of the morning...

Been told Stanford University has its own private branch...

Nice that you put reflectors on those trees. I could see them coming in very handy!

Previous owner put on the reflectors. I would have put them on flexible rods to the inside of the trees. More than one trucker has had his partner get out and guide him through those trees. Not a lot of wiggle between a few, but enough.

Neighbors dog gets out of their fence and barks at the delivery people and if they are delivering to me, the barking is on my parcel. Yesterday the wife said the delivery guy picked up a piece of my firewood to protect himself and rang our doorbell for help. The neighbor dog is a barker, not a biter but I gotta figure this one out. The dog gets out on the beach side of their parcel, not on the common fence, otherwise the problem would be solved. I have asked them to fix the fence but I may need to help them do it or something.

A solar fence charger and a bit of electric fencing will do a good job of educating.

Same here. Our local Post Office sends all our outgoing mail 187 miles to Anchorage only to be processed and trucked back a day or few later. Makes no sense.

I grew up in the most segregated large city in the USA. Milwaukee led the list for years and years. We had a regular bridge that crossed a normal sized river. They called it the longest bridge in the world, separated Africa from Poland.

Not at all surprised this happen in Portland. It's a very bi polar city with the girly boys and the Russian gangs.

You ain't seen nothing till you see a Russian gang, makes the rest look like girl scouts.

Just to add to the topic, I have had a package that was shipped from Illinois, arrived in Irving Tx on 12/13.... tracking shows it "enroute to next destination " ever since. Never showed "departed Irving Tx.", like the tracking usually does. It is only 10 hours from Irving Tx to Albuquerque...... they must have someone walking the package in a mail bag.....
