Peter,
Today is the 19th.
I have one enroute, that was mailed to me on December 2nd from Sandston. Va.
Is now sitting in Providence (100 miles away), and has been for 4 days so far, after sitting in Springfield (170 miles) for 4 days prior.

649 miles, and 17 days of travel. and still 'ain't' here yet!
38 miles per day, so far!
The Pony Express did WAY better than that!

For only $5 per 1/2oz too! Wells Fargo lowered the rate to $1 an ounce a year later.

Apparently theft of US mail is treated different than FedEx, UPS, etc?

Post Office complaints about losing business have dominated and now it is having 6 million more packages daily... guess you just can't win...

Post Office said some holiday packages will not be delivered until January... and could be longer depending on weather and Covid.

CA is under lock down with areas under mandatory quarantine for out of area travelers.

Post Office person also said competitors are limiting shipments but Post Office not permitted to limit.

Why would a thread need to be locked when concerning the theft of mail or packages?
In my era, mail theft was a federal crime!
Are federal crime discussions censored on this forum?

The post had a comment referencing CA political trends.

What's your point?

My comments in this thread regarding Amazon have mentioned what I will call one stop shopping #276 and the fact that I can reference all previous orders #314. The other on line sources referenced in response to my post offer nowhere near what Amazon does. I am sure they are great sites but have quite limited offerings IMHO.

Not so much “political” per se as a member simply pointing out poor governmental responses to social problems and Oaktree simply saying he would prefer to live where government was more responsible. Cause and effect of supply chain goods availability perhaps but nothing objectively political about it.

It appears shippers/sellers replacing items not received is accepted as the cost of doing business.

Without signature confirmation who is to say?

There are neighborhoods where packages simply are not left when no one is there to receive... which could generate another set of problems,

I probably home receive 6 packages annually and have neighbors that can receive 6 packages in a day for personal use.

My best work company to order from is Grainger... always on time, no added shipping charge and items arrive through many different carriers... anything damaged replaced without question and returns accepted at local branch.

Close enough for the moderators at times to lock a thread it seems. They have a lot of ground to cover so I sort of understand. Back to the thread topic.....

Yep, Grainger can be good in all the areas you mention, but they are consistently the very worst in competitive pricing.

What ticked me off with Graingers was that you could walk into the store, look at stuff, ask questions, but you couldn't buy anything unless you were an employee of some company that met their profile. No retail sales. Not sure if they ever changed that policy but our store closed many years ago. I had several other places I could buy the same stuff without hassle.

They probably simply did not to do consumer credit as well as small sales.

Yes and no... I'm tied into a national account and negotiated prices on items like GE lighting no one has been able to beat.

Also had then quote equipment for a build out and they can be very competitive...

But 100% on straight catalog price which they no longer print... all online now

For us individual peons it is always straight 100% retail at Grainger, if we are allowed to buy there at all!.

As a kid we had a neighbor with a Grainger "Number" and when looking at age 12 for an air compressor to paint my first car he said we could use it as Grainger sold SpeedAir... ended up buying from Sears.

I went outside and noticed a delivery guy walking down the 1000' driveway I share with 3 neighbors (I am at the far end). I asked him if he needed help and found out he was looking for the neighbors house who does not have a turn around. He was in a 26 foot truck and I told him he could use mine and I have had 26 footers turn around many times. A little while later he backed down the driveway between the trees which takes more skill in my opinion than turning around.

Nice that you put reflectors on those trees. I could see them coming in very handy!

Dont know if its a trend in other post offices but most around here no longer have a local mail slot or outside box marked as so.

Grainger is and always has been Grainger, attitude to de max and unless you got relationship wid counter guy or phone guy you up de creek.
Dey got no need of small cash customer who represents low profit and consumes lot of employee time.
Dey got no need to be competitive cause dey got product in inventory or can get it fast. Dey also got salesmen on road getting people beyond purchasing agent to Think Grainger and ads on de radio. Plan is to get everybody in place like hospital or school who can initiate an order to Purchasing to Think Grainger first. Corporate culture says Purchasing just hit Approved on order crossing his screen widout checking price from other vendors. McMaster might have better price, but purchasing guy gonna take easy path rather den look. Seems to be working.
