I was mowing today and was making turns when I noticed that there is no steering stop. When it turned the wheel all the way left or right the steering wheel did not come to lock. I could just keep turning the steering wheel even though the wheels were at full turn. Never noticed that before. Anyone else notice this? Possible pump problem?

You probably lost the bolt that limits the travel.

Does this bolt cause the steering wheel to stop at full turns? Would you please be so kind as try this with your tractor? At about 1800 RPM turn the wheel all the way left or right. Does the steering wheel stop at full turn or can you keep turning it while the wheels dont move?

I'm 99% certain that if you turn the wheel all the way, it will hit the stop, and you can't move the steering wheel any further. I'll check when I get home. R,

Tested it on mine, and it's as I described. I guess you could get the wheel to turn, but you'd have to crank on it, making it slip (like when the engine isn't running).

Look at your left front hub....it will have a stop bolt in front, like the one below, and a similar one in back (mine is painted black). Sorry for the bad pic....it was in the shade, and I only had my work Blackberry on me.

If your hydrostatic steering motor is worn, the wheel will continue to turn if you apply pressure even after the wheels hit the steering limit. Does it turn easily or just gradually move round as you put on pressure. It shouldn't do this on a fairly new tractor. Time for a dealer call if that is the case.

My stop bolts are still there. It doesn't take a lot of force to turn the steering wheel at full wheel lock. Almost seems like a relief valve is opening.

I think you should get a prize, you may be the first one on here with a legitimate problem with the tractor itself. Sorry you had to be the one. Hope you get it worked out.

Could be, or maybe a seal in the valve....probably an easy fix.

Boomer632, did you ever get this checked out? My 4041 does the same thing.
