New Holland TN70A
Would a Woods Rotary Cutter BB720X be too heavy for my TN70A New Holland? The cutter weighs 1200 without chain shielding. I am planning on ordering chain shielding front and rear so it would be slightly more. The tractor weighs just over 5700 with no implements and presently has a Bush Hog loader 4045 attached. I do not know its weight.

Also the PTO rotates clockwise and the cutter lists the blade rotation as counter clockwise. Am I right in guessing that the gear box takes care of this?

Looks to me like you'll be fine, your machine is rated for close to 4K lbs on the 3pt. Rotary cutters are hard because the weight is so far back, but I'd be shocked if your machine couldn't lift it.

Yes, the gearbox changes the speed and direction of the rotation, nothing to worry about there (unless it's something totally unique to Woods; they do make gearboxes that go the "opposite way" but they are oddballs for things like batwing cutters where you have a splitter and multiple gearboxes).

I’m not sure how my tractor (M6800 Kubota with FEL) but I have the BB720 (a great cutter). I have no problem whatsoever. Do you have an FEL or front weights?

The OP said he had a BH 4045 loader so he should be set on front weight.

The bulk of the weight will be on the cutter’s wheel, so you won’t have any issue.

I run a BB720X on my DX55, and it's a perfect fit in my opinion. I have chains front and back too. Your 70 will handle it like a toy. Woods does offer 3PH limiter chains too, so you can let the weight of the cutter hang on the chains rather than bounce on the 3PH. I got a set for mine, but they don't fit due to the several hydraulic couplers on the back of my 55.

You'll be fine, my brother used a Land Pride 6' cutter on a TN65 and it handled it no problem. With your tractor being a tad bigger and the cutter about the same you will love it.

You might want to order it with dual tail wheels, if weight is a concern. I would love to have a BB720!

do you have loaded rear tires? ballast is helpful on a compact machine w/a cutter of that size. your fel will also no doubt help, best regards

Thank you all for responding. I found out today that Woods has discontinued production on the BB720X. New model is not scheduled for release until 12/1/19
