Loader put some hooks on the loader

I've already been out clearing part of the yard that's grown up with privet and scrub. Yesterday I needed the hooks on the loader to pick up and drag out a couple of the trees I pushed over. Hooks have been here all week, just haven't gotten them on yet. Decided instead of going and playing and pushing stuff over again, I needed to get the hooks on first. put 3 on, 1 in front of each of the loader arms, the other in the middle

I'm not a pro welder by any means, and my little mig welder requires multiple passes. If I could just make the second pass look as good as the first one....oh well I can't remember the last weld that failed, even the bird poo ones :laughing:

Every bucket should have these hooks installed by default. I do not know why manufactures do not include them.

I welded my hooks to a length of 3/16" 2 by 3 angle iron and then welded the angle iron to the top of the loader. As for the hooks, I screwed up 2 ways:

5/16" chain is plenty. But I started with 3/8" and stuck with too heavy chain.

Weld the center hook first. Place outside hooks where you want them then, using chain as a guide, scootch them into position so that the links line up snug. Forgot that last part and chain droops and sometimes falls out.

But it has held up to a lot of abuse so I did okay. No bending of loader top lip.

that's one advantage of welding on the 'bolt on' hooks, they're already on the plate. I also welded up the holes where the bolts would have gone, so some extra holding power

A bit different type of loading that can also get you in trouble. Think a swinging load or highly unbalanced.

That said, I have put two hooks at roughly the quarter points on bucket on my BX. I didn't know where I wanted them as I was a newbie to tractors then, so I ended paying a premium and bought the BXpanded bucket hooks. I really like them and they are easily removable/movable. After 5 years, I haven't moved them so I wouldn't recommend them if you don't mind welding on your bucket.

I would also recommend installing a D ring in the center maybe on the backside, if you put a couple hooks on the outside near the top. The D ring with a shackle is more secure.

That was one of the first things i did is order 3 5/16 weld on hooks so far i have only one welded on in the middle will get the other two later when it gets cool.

I had my son put them on for me while he was home. He's a welder/iron worker by trade.
