My Kubota has a clutch. I like the electric pto button because I can just tap it and it shuts off, like a emergency off switch. But I use the foot clutch when turning on the pto.

I think the abruptness is most noticeable on a rotary cutter because when it engages the blades swing back an cause clanging.
