I have a live-independent on my machine but i am wondering what are the other types and how do they work? My engagement is by an hydrulic cluth but what are the other means. And are all pto's driven by gears via the clutch or are some hydrulic? Thanks for the knowledge.

doing some reading i believe mine is a live clutch, and it's a 2 stage. if i depress the clutch all the way the pto stops but if i only depress say 1/2 way the pto continues and the tractor stops.

Most pto are gear driven, and either actuated by dry or wet clutches .. various methods are used by different manufacturers.. everything from pull cables, to manual levers, to electric solenoids.

A few 'tractor-like' pieces of equipment have full hyd pto's.. IE.. it's a hyd motor driven from a hyd pump. I -think- powertrac is like this.. but I don't own one, so am not 100% sure.
