On my L3200 HST I start the engine with the clutch engaged as normal and the PTO switch off (not spinning). When I let the clutch out the PTO engages and starts spinning even though I do not have it set to do that. There are two contacts below the PTO switch that are making contact/not making contact appropriately when the switch is on/off so I don't think that's the problem.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like the clutch pack is dragging and driving the pto. If it is actually engaged you shouldn't be able to start the tractor. If it's still under warranty it should go to the dealer for correction.

One other possibility is the cable being out of adjustment just enough to keep the pto engaged, but allow the engine to start, which shouldn't happen either. You mentioned a switch for the pto? I thought there was a short lever and a cable? Live pto, right, not independent?

You need to adjust the PTO lever... There were instructions on TBN how to adjust it at one time. It happened to mine, involving a tiller and a dirt floor:confused2:.

(trying to remember) but the nuts that hold the pto cable need to be moved (not sure in or out). If I remember correctly, it was pretty scary to set it correctly since you move the leaver without the clutch push in, and the point where the leaver and the grinding noise of the pto trying to engage was at a certain point.

Sorry I don't have the instructions where I'm at now - if no one else post it, I'll look when I get home in a few days.

The reason you can still start it is the safety switch is fine and working, the cable is either too long or short and not disengaging.

I don't think there is a cable on his 3200. On my L3130 the PTO is operated by a little lever that only moves a couple of inches. I always thought it was solenoid operated, but never really looked into it.

The L2800-3200's are cable operated and pull the cable to engage the PTO. Like any cable system the cable needs a good lubing. There is the possibility that the cable is stuck.

These cable PTO's are not my favorite thing. I kept mine lubed and it lasted about 300 hours. If not adjusted correctly damage can occur to the PTO clutch if it does not fully engage.

I love their procedure with the crunch factor.:)

One of the benefits of the gear drive L series.. No cable, just a lever on the floor.

True...but the benefit of HST far out weigh it for me.

Ahh, but that's just one of the benefits of gear drive.. I'll think of the rest and let you know ;)

I have one gear and two HST and love them all. One main reason I chose HST is to get creep speeds at full RPM for snow blowing in heavy snows.

I love the smiplicity of gears but the convenience of HST.:)

I didn't realize the gear drive "L" series and the HST models had different PTO engagement methods. As the old saying goes "Learn something new every day!"

I have a question - I am not sure I should start here or not...anyway.

I have a Kubota BX2350 and the mid PTO attached to my mower deck has always had a slight delay after shifting the engage lever on. The delay used to be 2-3 seconds. Now it is 15-25 seconds. And it has disengaged (with lever still engaged) during operation and then will not engage, or sometimes after more than 60 seconds plus.

Any advice for me anyone?

Your first post, Welcome to TBN... I would just start a new thread in the kubota section (post the same information). I would put the model in the title, that will attract others that have that same model to help answer your question, like: "BX2350 with a delayed mid PTO engagement".

You'll get better replies that way. Posting a different question in another person's thread (with a different model) is poor forum etiquette. It's done all the time and is not a problem but you'll get a better response with a new thread (not trying to be a forum snob, just trying to help you). ;)
