2012 John Deere 5093E
I have 5093E I use with a 10' Bush Hog cutter..I keep the PTO selector in the 540E position as opposed to the 540 position. The 540E maintains the pto speed at lower rpm's.. I cannot think of any mowing situation that the 540 position would be better...Any ideas?

Wait till you get into grass as high as the front tires or start mowing up a steep hill. I rarely use the 540e in my 5083e for just such reasons. Also, if you start mowing heavy brush you will want the regular pto setting!

Yeah I can see if you needed a lot of power it wouldn't work well..My pasture is so rough I can't go more than 4 mph anyway and the grass is usually pretty short.....I'm still getting used to this tractor..I loved my Kubota and hated this John Deere but the more I use it and learn about it the more I like it.. I think the pto with the E option is something I will learn to appreciate..

E settings are to be used for light work on the pto...

It's not a good idea to use E for ANY heavy pto work.
