Gents,

I've just taken delivery of a BX2200 with the loader, mid-mount mower deck, and a rear blade, all of which were attached at time of delivery. In general, Kubota tells us not to run the engine at full RPM for the first 50 hours, but at the same time recommends full RPM when running the mower deck. So, I've decided to remove the mower deck for a while and use my old, existing garden tractor to handle the mowing chores. Unfortunately, I now have an exposed mid PTO without a cover, I'm assuming one should have been supplied with the tractor but was not provided to me. Until the dealer gets it to me, can anybody recommend a temporary cover that I could put into place while I'm using the loader and rear blade?

I'm sure a PTO spline cover is a good idea; keep it clean and shiny. My B7100 came with a cover on the mid-PTO, and I never removed it since I've never used a mid-PTO. The B2710 came without covers, and I'll still probably never use the mid-PTO. But the fact is that I don't personally know anyone who ever uses a cover.

Bird,

I guess the next question should be answered by Kubota themselves. Why would some Kubota models come with a mid-PTO cover, while others may not, especially the BX models which are intended to do double duty for smaller parcels? Keeping the mid-PTO clean is just as important as keeping the rear PTO clean, which has a cover.

Darn good question. been concerned aso with that. let us know why that is.

When I took delivery on my B2710 (w/o any mid attachments), it also came without a mid PTO cover. I did find a cover for the rear PTO in the tool box under the seat, but it won't fit the mid PTO./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
I wonder if the parts manual for the 2710 shows a mid PTO cover?

No sir, robz. I noticed there was no mid-PTO cover with my B2710 when I first got it (and my mid-PTO will probably never be used), but there is no cover shown in my owner's manual, shop manual, or parts manual (or at least I can't find one if it's there/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif).

Hello Rob.
My B7100 came thru with a cover install for my mid pto,but not the rear pto.
One should have some sort of a cover for a mid pto, from objects which could damage.

I've to stumble on a rear pto cover for my Kubota so I made one,and more than once it has come in handy.

One of my who purchase J.D.955 also had no covers on his mid pto......mmmm.

You might be on something new and interesting here, and I hope you keep us posted.

Maybe Bird & Wen & Muhammad also others could steer you in the right direction.

Have you try Craver.com?

May you be safe and have many hours of fun on your Kubota.

Thanks Bird, Thomas.
I too thought that the PTO should be covered when not in use to protect it from dirt/damage.
Maybe Kubota doesn't make a mid PTO cover for the 2710 yet.
I asked the dealer that I bought my tractor from to send me the mid cover, and he mailed me the rear cover instead.

I'll check around and let everyone know if I find a source.

Otherwise, guess I'll have to figure out how to make one.

Oops, I keep my rear covered with grease when it doesn't have an implement on it. Don't have a mid PTO. I have seen a cover for the PTO shaft in one of my catalogs. I will check the Tractor Supply Catalog.

Bird,

Hmmmm! New Holland came with mid and rear covers and for less money. New Holland: The quality goes in before the name goes on! I guess they just know that New Holland owners will want to take better care since they last so long!

Seriously, now...found a used tractor website and many Fords/New Hollands were listed with thousands of hours in great shape. I like to see stuff like that! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Raining cats n' dogs here right now...hey, I think I just saw a cow come down!

JimBinMi, I just assume New Holland figured you might as well keep the PTO splines covered to prevent rust while they're sitting around, and of course the owners had better take better care of them so they'll last awhile, and Kubota didn't figure you needed a cover on them because you'd be using them./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

And raining cats and dogs; I wish. Hot and dry with a 50% chance of showers forecast for tomorrow, but right now it looks like it'll all go north of us again./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Hi Jim.
I see there another New Holland lover out there, and like my friend said " once you had the best you won't try the rest"......mmmm.)

The website you wrote about with Fords/New Hollands could you please sometime forward the site.

Here in Lebanon,NH the lighting snapping and the wind blowing strong, also its raining so hard that the rain drops bounce back up again from the surface than fall again....yikes

The bright side is the heavy rain should help keep the pollen & blackflies or balance for a while.

It sure would be nice if Bird could send some of his warm weather my way to dry up the ground.....hint...hint...Bird.
Looks like more idle time also getting behind on the tree farm.....oh well guess I have to use some vaction time.

Take care out there Jim and stay dry also safe.

Re: PTO Protection....JimBinMI

You wouldn't want my weather; just under 90 and high humidity, grass already dying, ground cracking, and the TV weatherman says May is "traditionally" our rainy month.

I hope I’m not double-answering here, but that cover should have been installed by the dealer (rear) and if one was made for the mid-PTO when you purchased your tractor, it too should have been installed before you took delivery of your tractor (assuming that it was a new tractor). However, my memory doesn't tell me a mid PTO cover was present on the last B2710 I saw. I don't know the answer to that one.

Re: PTO Protection....JimBinMI

Sounds like here, Thomas... only problem I see is 1) there is no power at home so I had to come back to work to get onto the forum (faster connection so that's not bad), 2) the grass is too tall already! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

On the bright side, for me, get the mud mess over with and then June will be nice!

Enjoy,

Bird,

Flood warning tonight through tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. since I'm a teacher and I live on high ground, I'm hoping for enough rain to call off school tomorrow. If not that's OK, just have 14 days (school days) left until semi-retirement...I mean summer vacation!!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif More time to spend with my NH doing some serious work!

All of my L's have come with cover on any PTO it had - the L4310HST doesn't have a mid-PTO. I've never taken the mid-PTO covers off the ones that had 'em, and I immediately took the rear covers off and never replaced them.

I'm not saying that's the best way to do it, but I suspect it's pretty much normal. I've never had a problem from not using the cover.

Ok, are we talking about covers or guards here? Big difference, because this one is starting to not make sense to me if we're talking about covers. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Well, he said cover so I assumed that's what was meant, but I see what you mean.

JimBinMI - when you say school is almost out so you can do major work with Big Blue, do you mean valve job, new main end bearings, and the like? Just curious. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
