A stragically placed paper clip does the same thing.MY Massy GC1715 requires me to be in seat... I actually put ZIP tie around seat switch and since tractor is "dumb" it thinks I'm still on seat....
Add a PTO water pump, PTO generator, PTO buzzsaw, etc. All cases where the tractor is a stationary motor to power something. In my case, the logging winch and backhoe. Formerly also a wood splitter, hopefully a wood chipper in the future.
Yet as I mentioned before, I disabled my seat switch because I got tired of it shutting the tractor down every time I turn in the seat to watch the mower, tiller, plow or disc harrow.
Good catch! I forgot about the nanny society. Not it.
The ppl making these decisions, are more concentrative on litigation and has nothing to do with the concern of safety.
Anyway of mitigating the aspect of factory “negligence”, governs this mindset.
I hate to say this to you jstpassin but I had to double read your post. I have had to pay big for any type manual for mt stuff. Even just service manuals. Repair manuals almost out of reach. If you are serious please provide me the source. I need manuals on a d5 m caterpillar nowIt should be covered in your operator's manual. If you don't have one it would be a good idea to get it. You probably can download it for free.

On my 25+ year old JG 870 you just tip the seat forward and pull up on the safety switch. Very straightforward. It seems to be more complicated on newer models.niiiice didn't think about that one..... should be an over ride switch somewhere?? My wife actually suggested "we" need a wood chipper yesterday.
Hey eagle1. That helps. How do you do that, go to gastronome get the one you want. Mine is actually a D5 M. I haven’t had it long. A 1998 model but low hours. I need to know the correct maintenance procedures. I get the specs off the internet but so far it s all I found. I know equipment better that I do the internet. But thank you a million
