Hi TYM'rs
I've been pondering this for quite awhile and figured I'd just ask it. Seems sorta like a dumb question but I've never run an HST tractor before.

1. Before start up of tractor oil level in sight glass is right at the "H" line.

2. Start up engine and level drops to just above the "L" line. Run 3PH up and raise loader and level sags just below "L" line.

3. Is this normal and just the fact that oil is circulating throughout system? Or, should oil level be topped off while engine is running with hydraulic rams extended?

4. I'm afraid that if I do just that then my system will be overfilled and I might blow out something? Or, am I overthinking this just a tad? As I read the operaters manual it just says to check the sight glass for proper level. Does not say anything about having the motor running or not. My system seems to be running just fine how it's been, but I am curious as if I'm doing it proper or not. Thanks for your thoughts. Greg

That should be fine. It is the same when you check engine oil is before you start it and being up close to the full mark. I would say a HST system would act the same way. When running the hst oil in the resivour being lower is normal. You are correct that if it is over full it can leak oil or blow a seal.

Thanks Pete-mi,
That's where I thought the level should be at but it never hurts to get another opinion. Just wanna make sure I wasn't out in left field.
