None! It's Translated Like yours!! You have a opinion and I have mine. All the quick replies and still Not another Manual saying the same thing your ym240 does.

Perhaps Aaron from Hoye will jump in with an "opinion". I'm done.

Just Show another manual. Can't be that hard to find one.

Page out of the YM276 service manual. For what it is worth (nothing) I never start my former Yanmar or my current Bobcat with the throttle in the wide open position. They both crank up immediately with throttle at idle. If that wasn't so I would use higher throttle. I wil have to conclude I don't think it is a Yanmar misprint.

And Full throttle. If you click on the 1300 with the loader.

" Carey its pointless to respond to you if you are going to change what I'm responding to, AFTER you read my response."

You got that right, California. He does keep proving my original point.

It seems to me, that opening the throttle to full allowing as much fuel to get into the cylinders as possibly lubricating the cylinders, allowing more fuel and then cranking the engine to receive compression and then ignition. Then immediately bring it down to the half throttle makes sense. One thing that we forget is that we also have a foot throttle we can use when we are starting. I set the hand throttle to half or high idle but push the foot throttle to the floor. As soon as i let go of the foot throttle the hand throttle setting takes over. That allows me to use one hand for decompression and the other for thermostart and starter switch.

I was waiting for this to come up. My Foot throttle will not open up any were near Full Throttle. I've straightened the connecting rod as straight as it will go to get the Max. movement from the pedal. Any straighter and it won't connect properly or at all for that matter. Even added to the pedal. Opening all the way is Not a problem for me. I'm not starting my starting my 2000 Wide open. If you have to you have a compression problem. And Yes Scotty The Lubrication I agree with. But I get that with using the Decompression. With the Valves held open and no combustion it's not blowing all the Fuel out. Plus you get the oil pressure up before running. That's the only time I ever see that much Blk. Smoke when starting it. And Norm I thought you were through??

I was talking, (typing), to California, but you feel free to continue on without me.

Checked my thermostart this morning and it heats up! I removed the air inlet and activated it. Sure enough a little red glow from the heating element. I don't think I'm getting diesel fuel all the way in yet. Although I saw some smoke, I never saw any flame but only tried it once. I was nervous about sucking something without using the air filter. After replacing the air inlet hose I removed the fuel line to the thermostart and slowly primed that line. It's all hooked up and ran well this morning moving some firewood. I'm still not sure the temp sensor is working so getting that gauge installed is my next task followed by the loader valve. I'll have some time off between Christmas and New Years. Hopefully the weather will be decent so I can work on replumbing that.

Thanks to everyone for the input and help. My decompression is now working correctly and I think the the thermostart is as well.

If a thermostart bowl has been empty for some time it takes a while for it to prime itself before it will work properly. Once primed it will flame up nicely and preheat the intake. Mine has been empty for at least 5 years as I don't need it.

I tried the full throttle start on the YM186D yesterday. (40 degree weather).

I didn't like how hard it accelerated or the high rpm attained, in the moment before I could get the throttle reduced.

Won't do that again.

Suppose cold start must be defined, have started diesel engines at -30c and they sure don't run off with full throttle.

Cold is relative. Here my average winter low is around the mid twenties. Occasionally it will drop below zero.
I am pretty lucky. My BX has never had an issue starting at idle or a little above in my cold weather with a few seconds on the glow plugs.

I think -35c is the coldes I have started my diesel van with no start aid of any kind exept glow plugs, but it takes some time before it warms up...
