In September I purchased a used '04 JD790 and have been working my way through all the Scheduled Maintenance before the winter hits. The JD790's Operator's Manual calls for a Thermostat replacement every 2-years or 2,000 hours of operation. I looked for a simple Thermostat Change Procedure (because I am mechanically challenged) and couldn't find one so I documented the steps along the way for others to use. For you experienced mechanics this will seem very rudimentary but for some of us with limited tools, knowledge and are not so daring this may help. Sorry about the two parts but the PDF file size limitations on posted attachments required me to split it in two.
