Kubota B7800
Hi all. Even though this is only my second post, I read and learn so much from these forums. I have a 2006 B7800 which I love dearly. The other day, the engine started cutting out as I was using it. If I stop quick enough, it will keep running. Otherwise, it would stall. My first thought was the fuel filter so I changed it. But in order to do this, I removed the side panel. It was full of oil. Upon looking at the engine, I noticed a hole blown out on the side right below the injectors! What in the world would have caused this and how pricey is it to fix? Looks like its on a square plate thats bolted on. I am a widow with not much money but I really need to get this repaired. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Sounds like a connecting rod! Any pictures? Would help the "experts" give you an estimate

The only thing I see with a square plate on side of engine is the throttle control mechanism. Hopefully it is just a small repair.

That is the throttle control. Hopefully that is all that is wrong. You may not want to run it any more in case parts fell into engine.

The way that hole is formed, something came from inside the motor to the outside. That doesn't look good at all.

Looks like someone shot at your Kubota and put one in the wheelhouse!

I took the time to go look at my (garaged) B3200 this evening. I believe this model is an updated version of the B7800. From what I see, I don't think the hole is as a result of an internal problem, but is as a result of the idle throttle stop portion of the casting breaking off.

Here is a picture of my (hopefully intact) throttle control plate. Not quite the same angle as my loader arm was in the way!

My tractor is off with the throttle closed, i.e. at idle. Comparing our photos, I think your idle stop has sheared off, and this could also be contributing to the engine cutting out which was your original issue.

I am not an expert in these things, but hopefully the picture comparison will help. I would think that replacing the plate may be all that is needed, although some adjustments would be needed to get the new stops adjusted correctly etc.

Hope this helps and good luck with the repair,

Stewie
