Oil & Fuel Problem with starting JD 2305

When I last used the tractor (yesterday), ran fine. Today, went to start it and it ran for about 2 seconds then shut off like it was out of fuel. It has 7/8 tank of diesel. I primed the fuel pump and tried to start again. Same results. Have tried at least a dozen time and tractor will not stay running longer than one to two seconds.

Drop fuel filter and see if there is water in the bowl. Change filter if there are a number of hours on this one.
Look for fuel blockage as well as check that the fuel shutoff solenoid is working.

It's more likely to be the diode if it's start and dies almost immediately.

It was the PTO lever that was in-between positions. Easy fix to a dumb problem that I should have checked first. Thanks to all.
