Au contraire.

"The big difference between gas and diesel engines is the fuel. Diesel requires a much higher compression to detonate(explode). This higher detonation means much higher pressures on the engine. That's what makes a diesel so loud. In all engines (gas or diesel),The piston hammers against the side of the cylinder wall while transferring up and down motion to the rotating crankshaft. In a diesel it has a much harder impact. Imagine hitting a bucket of water with a hammer. What this does is cause the cylinder wall to first move towards the coolant, and then away from it, at a very high frequency. This rapid movement causes very small vapor bubbles to form. These tiny bubbles (not the ones in your wine!) then implode or collapse as the wall comes back again. This creates very high pressures in very tiny areas. This is what causes small horizontal holes to form. These holes will eventually drill right thru into the combustion chamber. This will allow coolant into the oil when the engine is off, and oil into the coolant when running. This can happen in as little as 500 hours of operation when using just water as a coolant.
Several things can also contribute to this erosion. Such as a cooling system that can't hold pressure, air in the coolant, miss-routed hoses, or overheating.

I personally think diesel antifreeze is a gimmick. They have been using regular antifreeze for years in them. And I know of no one that is using anything else. They get by with the regular for decades and now need something different? I have a new John Deere and it don't call for anything special. Oh of course they want you to buy their brand, but if not just put in glycol base antifreeze the manual says. So I guess someone needs to tell John Deere, they are telling people to put the wrong thing in their Yanmar engines that they sold them. Sorry but that is what I think, it seems like someone is always coming up with something, to make money, that really isn't needed.

I was told to make sure it was rated for diesels so that is what I bought. I was advised by a mechanic for Bobcat so I figured he knew what he was talking about and he certainly didn't profit in any way from my purchase.

Dick evidently don't own a Ford Power Stroke Diesel!!!

/ Problem With New Yanmar?? #65
These Yanmar engines are a long ways from a Ford power stroke diesel. That is what we are suppose to be talking about on this forum.

You just said antifreeze is antifreeze, I proved you wrong and you want to change the subject. :D :D :D :D :D

/ Problem With New Yanmar?? #67
You say you proved me wrong. I really don't know that at all. Just because you said something, it doesn't prove it to me. And I still believe antifreeze is antifreeze, and will till I see something to show me other wise. You are right in that I never had a Ford power stroke, but that don't prove to me, that any antifreeze won't work in it. At my age, I don't have any plans on getting a Ford P S either. I have no need for one.

I actually agree with Dick on this one, technically.. The PowerStroke does not require "special" antifreeze(again, technically).. It does (prior to '03) require a diesel coolant conditioner..From '03(some '02s) they use Gold Coolant wich does not require the additive... Actually, I guess everyone is right here:D ... The story Wayne tells describes diesel cavitation, a very big problem with diesel engines of all sizes though more so with wet sleeves(as I am told)..

So, long story short..... Add your favorite brand coolant and add the additive, or get a diesel coolant..

O.K.....HERE I GO AGAIN.............

Just got off the tractor a little while ago.........Used the 4' cutter for about 10 minutes...........Light never came on.................Brought cutter back to owner..................Came back and decided to try the 5' Squealer cutter again...................Well, guess what??......................THE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON................I've pretty much come to a conclusion that its gotta be a bad sensor..........I used the tractor in some thick stuff too.................Still waiting on Stuart to send me a new light bulb and a new temp. sending unit sensor.................

And I keep asking, why a new bulb?????? The old one came on, so it must be alright. What can go wrong with a bulb, they either work or they don't, just that simple.

I guess I didn't make it clear.............A headlight bulb, NOT the temperature bulb...

/ Problem With New Yanmar?? #72
1......I found that the right side high beam head light don't work (there is a burnt spot in the bulb.)

I think that was clear.

I think many of us forgot about that because of the overheat topic...:D

Nice graphics California! I am proud of ya! I forgot to tell Travis that he is over reving his engine. You explained it perfectly......

/ Problem With New Yanmar?? #75
Dick, he is talking about a new headlight bulb. RCO tractor agreed to send him new headlight bulb cuz his hibeam don't work....

I think some of the new antifreeze/conditioneers may be an improvement over the the old stuff. I also think that these old Yanny's will do fine for years if you use clean fresh good quality old fashioned antifreeze with 50/50 A to W mixture.. That is what I use. Flush and change once a year. I may look at the D rated stuff next time? Remember that Antifreeze is very toxic to animals and people.....

When u used the 5 footer the second time did you still run your unit wide open? I think running them wide open and working them could get them a little hot. I run my 2210 at 2200 rpm or less. (4 ft brush hog) 2200 rpm and 1st pto gear = 540 pto speed.(well close) When I am out mowing the well grazed pasture I sometimes shift the pto speed to 2nd and drop the rpms to 1800 I put the range in 4th and the power shift in 3 and I speed mow. Now kids don't try this at home. I am just top cutting an inch of grass and the ocassional weed. I then drag a 4 ft chain harrow and all this does wonders for the pasture. I might try slowing down and drag the harrow behind the mower sometime.......one pass better than two....

You have not said what your radiator fins look like. Can you see light through them? Do you have a prescreen?

Yes, I do have a prescreen..........My radiator fins look to be very clean also............I will probably spray some Castrol Super Clean, oven cleaner, Simple Green, or engine degreaser in the fins to help "break up" some of the crud, if any.............

Travis

ps..........I just want to say that I am very happy with my Yanmar that I bought from RCO Tractor.................I really do like this tractor, and them too.

Get the temp gauge and you can always tell what is going on with your temp. For example, my 2210 always ran about 155 regardless of ambient temp, if it got up to 175, I knew something wasn't right.

Yeah,

Thats what my plans are.......But first I want to put the new sending unit in there and see what that does...........But I'll still put my gauge in, just a little later............I'm having a ****-of-a time trying to find that metric adapter I need....................Sunpro discontinued the CP7574 metric adapter kit..............
