Price Check, please.

I have a CUT (Deere 2305) and am in the market to purchase a trailer to haul it with. I have never owned or shopped trailers, and have borrowed an 18ft trailer to transport it in the past. With the loader on and the bush hog the tractor is about 19' long methinks.

A towing vehicle is not an issue, I have a Chevy 2500HD diesel.

Please excuse my ignorance.

a) when they say a trailer is 20', does that mean the trailer bed is 20' or that mean the entire length of trailer including the forward hitch mount area included. i'm assuming that means trailer bed, but double checking.

b) what exactly is a bulldog hitch?

c) i found the following listing on a new trailer. does this seem a reasonable price point?

20' is the deck length, not overall trailer. Says 2 7,000# axles...Wonder if they are 2 3500#..Don't know on that. 4 wheel brakes is a good thing.

Sounds lime a 7000# trailer which is fine as long as you take into account the trailer weight and the load weight.

Not sure about the bulldog thing...Heard of it, just never bothered to figure out what it is.

The price is very reasonable for what I've seen around here, even for a 7K.

The bull dog hitch is a name brand and is just the hitch that is welded on. Good hitch.. I like the fold up ramps I have and the my frame is heavy duty 6inch channel.. it also has the break away kit... This will give you something to compare against..

I'm in Oklahoma City. Found the the listing on oklahomatrailersales.com which is Calera, OK. 3 hours one way. Surely i can find a comparable trailer closer, but was searching around on the internet.

I'm not entirely clear what a breakaway kit is, but i'm guessing it's a device that applies the trailer breaks if the trailer loses the connection to the truck. that about right? is it electrical or mechanical?

that trailer you are looking at sounds like a good trailer and the price don't sound out of line. Where you located? that will help all of us if you fill out your profile as in CA that would be a steal in MO just a fair deal.

#7K axles are going to be 8 bolt.

remember your bolt paterns to weights

5 bolt - 3500
6 bolt - 5-6K
8 bolt 7K+

dual brake axles would be common for a 14K trailer (ie dual 7K axles), the R16 tires is also a clue for heavy axles as load ranges increase for 16" tires than for 15"

bulldog hitch is a brand name of a specfic style hookup.

The brake away kit is a simple box on the front of the trailer that has a small cable that attaches to the truck in the event that your trailer comes off the truck it pulls a pin in the box that automatically locks the brakes, It is electrical as the brakes are electrical also.. I also have one on my 5th wheel and had it catch something in the bed of the truck while turning last year and it slammed the brakes on.. it works!!:confused2: I had a 16ft with no brakes for about 6 months-- got frid of it for a 20ft with brakes.. GO with 4 brakes its worth it.. The ramps are the only other thing I would tell you go for.. If they are not mounted to the trailer they are heck to pick up and attach to the back EVERY time you load unload.. They are heavy!! thats why I suggest the folding attached ramps.. Mine will come off with one bolt per side if I really wanted to take them off.. Keep looking I bet you can find new in OK between 2500-2800??

The others have answered most of your questions. It does sound like a true 14K trailer, which is more than you will ever need (a good thing).

2 things - here we are taxed based on the weight rating, so you might check on that.

The other thing is if you look at the fold up ramps in the picture someone posted you will see that they kneel down to support the weight as you drive the tractor on. If your vehicle isn't overly heavy or if you ever want to drive a very heavy tractor on, some way to keep the back of the trailer from sinking (and lifting the back of your truck) is worth thinking about.

Good luck. You will also want to invest in some chains and binders etc. You might ask the dealer or someone to show you how to strap down your tractor, both for safety and because in some areas law enforcement can and do write tickets...
