Premium Diesel... ?

I love the big nozzle, that way I can empty my checkbook faster so I can get back to work quicker to refill it.

I hate the big nozzles.
U can't fill a plastic 2 or 5 gallon can with them .

Filled up my jug today and wound up filling with premium diesel instead of regular diesel.
1*Is this ok for the Kubotas? I would assume so... but I want to double check.
I know with regular gas the premium is usually a higher octane specifically for higher compression motors.
2* Is premium diesel similar?

Where do you live and where did you get the 'premium' diesel at? Did they say what made it premium?
3*Only diesel you can get today for on road use is ULSD, #1 or #2 or mix depending on where you live and what time of year it is.
4*For off road, you can still get LSDF at co-op's and fuel distributors. Philip.

5*I have never heard of premium diesel fuel. #

7*It will run fine on kerosene which is #1 diesel

You can't easily fill an '02 Silverado either. I use a cut off oil plastic oil bottle as a funnel/adapter. Cut off about 1/2 of the bottle & jam the nozzle into bottle neck. Still a pita as it bypasses the overfill mechanism. MikeD74T

Some years back a Texaco at my exit had "Premium Diesel" only.
Later an Exxon opened across the street. The Texaco lowered their price but also removed the word Premium from their diesel pumps. Supposedly the Premium Diesel had extra additives for cleaning, hight cetane etc.

They tried the "premium diesel" rouse around here years ago.

Once, when I was young, I asked a baker what the difference between the $1 loaf of bread, and the $2 loaf of bread was.

He said, "There really is no difference".

I said, "Then why is there two different prices for the same bread"?

He said, "Some people want to pay $2 for their loaf of bread".

Premium diesel is a $2 loaf of bread.

Like the guy who insists on buying premium fuel for a car, that was built to run on regular, you will never convince them they are wasting their money.

west Tennessee, We have two grades here, One is for the newer road use vech. it has no sulfur content or verylow for emmisions control. Older units still have the regular fuel. I haven't seen any Bio-fuel or #1 fuel. Our long term fuel tanks{gen-set} all have fungicide added to the fuel for stabilization.Cost? starts at $2.85 gal.Jy

Okay, I'll chime in here. I used to be in the fuel delivery business. I ran a tugboat that pushed a 145,000 barrel barge - that's a little over 6 million gallons. There are several different blends of diesel fuel depending on which refinery blends it. The premium diesel (also referred to in some areas as marine diesel) has additives added to boost both the cetane and the lubricity. Premium diesel came about due to the poor lubricity found in the new low sulfur blends. Seems there were some fuel pump issues with certain engines. Again, the base starts off the same more or less as everyone elses product, but the additives are added by each individual refinery. This is sometimes done at the refineries, and sometimes done at the tank.

This is what I've been told. I know the company where I work now, has a fleet of 17 vessels. There are two which we fill with 'premium' diesel and the rest get the regular stuff. Again, this is mainly a lubricity issue. We use millions of gallons a year, so I'm sure the owner is up to speed on the product. I doubt he'd toss away money for nothing. In fact, we have a regular fuel analysis program for each vessel to make sure what we get is up to our company's standards.

Doubt it makes a difference in a kubota. These are very high horsepower engines with an extreme duty cycle that see thousands of hours each year.

I have operated various diesel cars and trucks on the road. Most of the time I bought fuel at a truck stop.I used Marvel Mystery oil added to the fuel. I have never had a fuel pump issue on any of my engines. I felt it helped lubricate the fuel pump and the valves and was much cheaper than a chance of repairs. My Kubota has it in the fuel now too. It only takes a few ounces to a tank. Jy.

They problem with that plan is, when adding Marvel Mystery oil to ULSD fuel, it reacts with the additives in the fuel, and actually lowers the lubricity. :thumbsup:

This information is available on the web. It was proven in a study done by an independent testing lab.

The study is cited in many threads on fuel additives, here on TBN.

They tested many popular fuel additives, and found many needed to be reformulated for ULSD.

I do not know if MMO has been reformulated due to this yet.

If your additives do not specifically say something like: "ULSD Compliant", or ULSD Formulated", you should stop using them.

Sometimes good intentions are your worst enemy.

What is farm fuel?

Farm fuel can be high sulfur, or ULSD depending on what they order.

I add a small amount of this in off road ULSD, for insurance: Diesel Fuel Improver It scored very high in the study.

The main difference in Farm Fuel here is the road TAXES, or at least a lot different. Supposed to be put in special marked storage tanks, and it has Dye in it. Big problems if you have it in a road unit. jy.
