I thoroughly agree about the lower the better point, but in our area here, and especially on the property we rent. We do not call the fence post's Posts, we call them plugs cause we put them in the hole to keep the water from coming out of the ground.

During springtime, it would be under water most of the time.

Great thought but I do not think it will work in my circumustance.

I understand that. My thought was that the gravel would (hopefully) allow rainwater drain out, or at least stay low enough so as not to fill the hole. The VA soil (if you want to call it that) doesn't perc so well, so I imagine if it doesn't get in from above it may be alright.

I may have to experiment myself some day and pass it along.

Two wooden fence posts, a peice of 2x6, a few nails, and a piece of rope does the trick for me.

Has anyone made, or seen, or have a photograph, of a stand for a standard type post hole digger that holds it in position to hook up too the tractor?

I just looked & did not find the paperwork on it. Will look for indentifying info on it when I am out where it is stored.

We purchased it in 1972, along with a new Little Rhino blade & used David Brown 770 tractor. I found paper work on them, but not the post hole digger.
