My JD 4600’s rear PTO occasionally has the plate below the PTO - wet - and we are thinking it is due to a leaking seal. It hasn’t been severe and not a noticeable difference in the Hydraulic fluid level - but given the age (26 years), I’m thinking I should take it in and have it fixed at JD. Price was reasonable.

Thoughts?

Does it weep all the time or just for one specific implement. It could be a PTO shaft pushing the seal at a funny angle. I had that issue with my roto tiller. No other implements would cause it to leak.

Hard to say, @Roadworthy. I only use the PTO my MX6 and the manure spreader. I will have to check. The cost of doing the work was pretty reasonable and I figured it might be necessary given the age.

It's a basic $7 shaft seal. You can probably do it yourself. As long as there is not damage on the wear sleeve pressed on the PTO shaft.

Ok. The cost of install is quite cheap as well. Having Deere do it means that it is guaranteed if there are issues. I might just have them do it for me.

Thanks!
