Play in stering wheel

My JD dealer says they play in the tilt steering wheel of my 4410 is normal. I checked a couple new 4410'a yesterday and they were both the same as mine. JD re-designed the tilt steering wheels on the new 3000 and xx20 models. Anyone else had this problem and were you able to get it tightened up? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I gather you are talking about play in the 'tilt' mechanism?

By the 'title' I was thinking play in the steering wheel itself.

Well, when you grab the wheel you can rock it back and forth and from side to side. It's not a lot of play but the thing feels like it's loose, but it's tightend down all the way.

i replaced the tilt mech in my 4310 myself

it is without doubt one of the worst piece of engineering possible

it is extreamly fragile and i wouldnt recomend putting any weight on it

in dusty conditions its prone to sticking and i wouldnt recomend using oil to free it, i just run water in it to wash the dust and sand out of the recesses

its just something you just have to learn to live with

Don't you think JD should rectify this problem for us? After all it is a known problem and they have changed the design for the new series. It amounts to taken our money and running away with it. I own a construction company and I don't treat my customers this way. If it costs me money out of my pocket to fix a problem with a piece of equipment which we bought and installed for a customer and it does not perform as expected, I replace it out of pocket and eat the loss. That's how I have built my business up over the years and my customers are quite loyal. I think JD should do the same. Just my opinion. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
