Planting Taters

I got a 22 mag that works real good on coons, they never come back.

here is my biggest question. Do the dang deer eat potato plants? :p:p

Not much of a problem with the potato plants, but if you dig the potatoes one day and pick them up the next the deer will eat some of the potatoes.

One spring I dumped about 10,000# of excess potatoes and the deer had a feast all summer.

Hey will your 22 mag go through this many phone books? This was done with a mini spud launcher that we made to shoot in the basement. It was firing wood plugs at the time. The barrel was placed through the hole to show the passage.

Can you plant taters with that spud launcher?

those are a lot of fun, aren't they? one added little trick i used to do was take a large pipe reamer and ream the ID of the barrel, then, as most people do, grind a taper on the outside....it made the tater fit in VERY tight......i did cut my wrist once when loading one........

i haven't made one for years, i have some friends that hasn't evern seen one....."THE original salad shooter!"

i started an air one but never finished.....

good times!!!

No that launcher is not mine. I believe that is Joel Surprise from SpudTech.com

We ARE still talking about taters. I can plant taters in my neighbors yard with our launchers if I like.

When tater launchers are outlawed, only outlaws will have tater launchers.

Now its political.

since we're talkin' taters......

i loaded one up one time, just like normal, then i put a handful of 57 gravel in on top of the tater in the barrel.....i stood off from a tree about 10yds and pulled the trigger!!! it was like a shotgun and literally tore the bark off the tree.....way more power than i realized....

It's not just a spud launcher, it's an all purpose tree debarker, spud planter and mole eradicator.

Pineridge, just bought seed potatoes today,18 dollars a 50 lb bag for both red and kennibec.Good solid potatoes. So thats about 42-43 dollars for 100 lbs of seed potatoes, with taxes.

You better stop shopping for seed potatoes in those places you mentioned?

That's a good reason to save some of the spuds that you harvest to be used as seed for the following year.

Well now I'll get back to my prior post saying I have done that a couple of times, and many did not come up. Never have that kinda problem with store bought seed potatoes.

And the fact that I don't care to spend 50 bucks for 8 months supply of potatoes,[think thats a pretty good food deal] and we eat potatoes every day, sometimes twice a day.

   / Planting Taters #79
Yep,50 bucks for 8 months supply of tators,is a good deal, but I got over a years supply of deer meat in my freezer now,and I probably got 20 dollars in it.

Certified disease free seed potatoes run about $1/lb here in small quantity - The have 100lb sacks and they weigh out. Probably cost around the same as greenmule to buy whole 50 or 100lb sack, but I don't think I can handle that many :)

We generally get around 10lb for every lb planted here. What sort of yeilds do you guys get?
