Because of where the fitting is and what I'd need to do to replace it, I was going to take it apart, clean it up, and try the 545 dope on it and see if it leaks. If it still does, then I'll have to replace a hose and several fittings.

Just make sure whatever you use' that it is designed for the materials as well as product used within. (ie: stainless, iron, etc) I believe that if I remember correctly, it is 567 for stainless fittings.
