I have a 250 gallon tank that was filled with fuel oil or diesel. now what I plan on doing with this is when I get time I will cut in in half a weld what needs to be welded to make it into a pig cooker, I asked at work and this guy told me to connect a hose to my trucks tail pipe and let the exhaust filled the tank so I can cut it.What can I use to get the smell out beside burring and sand blasting?.

I did this exact thing.

Use a sawzall to cut it in half. Little to no sparks. I suppose you could fill it with carbon monoxide and then go at it with a torch...but a sawzall works pretty good.

I screwed 1x1 angle iron to the tank all the way around where I wanted my cut line with self tappers. Then I took a piece of 1/8" flat stock as a spacer and screwed another layer of 1x1 angle iron all the way around with self tappers. What this did was give me a perfect cut line all the way around the tank, I just used the angle iron(s) as a guide and let the sawzall cut. Worked perfectly. When the tank was split I just ground it flush with the angle iron(s) and then removed the self tappers one at a time and drilled/replaced with 1/4" bolts. This gave me my flange for the top and bottom.

As far as cleaning out the old oil, I cut a bunch of 2x4's and stacked them and burned out the tank. I don't really think that was necessary, if I were to do it again I would just use a weed burner (that I use to start the charcoal now) to burn out the old oil residue. Once you start using it, the inside will be covered with soot and grease anyhow, a little leftover oil isn't going to hurt you.

Firstly, BethelHntr... that is a thing of beauty. (The barbie & the ribs!!!)

Secondly, jack707... I initially looked in this thread wondering why you were counting pigs or assigning them specific jobs. A Pig Roaster makes more sense now.

I have cut a bunch of tanks/drums for people for barques and I always cut the lid with the back 3rd of the lid still attached to the bottom.
This acts as a wind break and doesn't let all the heat out when you open it. You can still cook with it open and the back area will be hotter for different meats.
