In Ohio, you could have a 50% reduction on the registration fee only, if it will be less than 6 months until it expires. Local and County taxes not included in the reduction. They go by your birthdate unless it's a leased vehicle. There are no other reductions, not 2 months, not 3 months, you'll pay for 6 months. I checked into this today...
You also cannot transfer tags until you you tell them the name of the buyer of the vehicle that the tags USED to be registered to that you no longer own.

Thanks Jerry, that's what I thought...
LB says he registers his trucks in three month intervals, but Ohio doesn't allow it.
There must be a way around it that we don't know about!

I'll check with my cousin. He is a police chief in Ohio, and if there is a way, he will know of it. I'll also have to ask him about the yellow plates, and the red ones too.

Dusty,
There are no red plates, just yellow ones with red letters/numbers.

To cut expenses I never have more than 2 of them licensed and insured at the same time.
They are all non commercial.
The 86 Dodge D50 is the only one licensed & insured 12 months A year.
The 89 Dodge D50 is only licensed & insured during Oct through March. It is placed in storage during the remaining 6 month of the year.
The 89 Nissan is only licensed and insured April through June and is in storage the other 9 months of the year.
The 92 Toyota is licensed and insured July through Sept and is stored the other 9 months of the year.
This schedule greatly reduces license and insurance expenses.

I was not aware you could buy license registrations for three month intervals in Ohio... How much do you pay to do this?

I can't find any information about this on the Ohio BMV website... only information on one year and two year renewals.

I have a Ford van that I only use in the summer. This might help me out! ;)

I think you may have overlooked the simple solution: a screwdriver to move the active plate around.

Ohio is still one of the states that still uses both a front plate and rear plate on each vehicle, as opposed to many states that only use a rear license plate now.

I don't know about how they do it over in that county, but over here there are some "rural" people (Hillbilly Americans?) who "register" two vehicles for the cost of one--
They take the front plate off of one vehicle and put it on the rear of the other vehicle!

With a certain persons trucks ,all being small and foriegn made,a police officer might not notice the difference[if checking the vin number isnt habit].Somehow i bet they are all the same color too. This person has got the system figured out,hes smarter than the adverage joe.;)

DUSTY,
LOL,
I dont know ,im paying over a grand just to licence all my vehicles up here in tax ****.If they all looked similar,i could do it for half price!!Sometimes i dont know why i even try, when everybody around me finds a way to get away with stuff. If you could run 4 trucks and switch the plates at random, and if you can get away with it for just a year or two,you would be way ahead of the game, even if you got caught and had to pay a fine.

I knew of a small trucking company that did that for years. All the trucks looked alike and only some of them were registered. The owner ran the risk of getting caught and figured that the chances of two trucks getting into an accident at the same time was remote. He got caught when two of his trucks were working the same job and the cop that was doing traffic duty noticed that they both had the same plate number. He didn't write him up, but he did tell the owner that he wanted to see all the trucks registered next time. I think that the only thing that he did after that was to never send an unregistered truck to any work site that had a cop working it.
