I bought a Howse PHD with a 12in auger.

It worked fine for the two times I used it:
once right after purchase, maybe 20 holes.
next time 6 months later, maybe 15 holes.

Then about 8 months later, there's a big puddle of oil under it, leaking from the drive shaft and from the auger shaft. Talk to the dealer and find out that not only does Howse NOT sell parts for the gear box, Howse doesn't even have a parts breakdown for the gearbox. So, I can't even find out what parts I need, much less order them.
I haven't tried to take the thing apart yet, but that's the next step. I am guessing I will need seals, or bushings, or bearings, or a combination thereof.
The name on the gearbox is Cheetah.

Do any of y'all have good source for bearings or seals, so I can match what's in there?
Any weird stuff to watch out for during disassembly?

Thanks,
Mule

You may consider just putting pourable or other grease in it unless its a really bad leak. Almost as good as oil & cheaper/easier than replacing seals.

If I wanted to replace the seals, bushings, or bearings, I think I'd take the bad ones to one of my local bearing supply houses and see if they could help me.

I'll echo what stuckmotor said. Remove the seal so you can measure shaft diameter, bore size and thickness of the seal. I'm fortunate to have Motion Industries, Applied, and Bearing Service Co. all here in Kalamazoo.

I'd drain the 90wt oil out of the gear case and fill it with John Deere's corn head grease. It is thick when cool and thin when hot. It was made for sloppy bushings and seals.

I recently lost a 200 hp gear box due to lack of oil. There was no sign of oil leak.
I talked to several dealers and more than one said instead of 90wt gear oil I should use grease like from a grease gun. They said farmers around hear have been using that for years with no issues.
