Actually not! I read studies show that repeated education works better than punishment or instilling fear.

Don't get me wrong. I like the punishment. If that doesn't work, amp up the punishment!

Had a UPS guy that would pull up behind my work truck or if I wasn't there, in front of my parking space a few years ago. I was on a mission every time I hit the shop, turning in paper work while the shop guys loaded the next load into my truck. If my truck wasn't in "my" parking space, it didn't get loaded, one of the requirements of the shop. They weren't "going looking" for my truck. So if UPS was inside getting a signature, I either had to wait or come back to move my truck again. He always said "OK, won't happen again", but it always did. One day it happened as I was heading for lunch. Truck was supposed to get loaded while I was at lunch and sure enough, I have to wait on UPS guy to show back up. I walked into the office, grabbed the 2 boss's keys who parked in the parking spaces on each side of me, outside the big door. I backed their trucks up in front of the UPS truck. Probably wasn't 6 inches of room to spare , and went to lunch. My boss called me, asking where the heck was his keys and when would I be back. I told him I was across the street eating my lunch in my personal pickup and he said "OK, see you in an hour". Now considering we only get 30 minutes for lunch, that was pretty much an "ATTABOY" as far as I was concerned. I got back and somehow the UPS truck was gone, but it wasn't because the trucks had been moved. Apparently he called someone with a floor jack and they spent 20 minutes jacking up one side and then the other and rolling it a couple feet at the time. As you can imagine, it never happened again, at least not for the 14 months I worked there.

I suggest to those folks that bad parking habits is generally what results in 'keying' scratches on the car.

Reminds me of once waiting patiently to take a parking slot at a Cosco.
Woman slickly slips into the slot I was about to occupy and she says 'I'll only be a minute' --B--ch!

Then U have the BMW's and Benz types that park diagonally right in front of the grocery front door because they are in a hurry!

People do everything to avoid excercise and then go hit the gym!

I’ve been trying to think of a plan to solicit free labor from the gym goers. I haven’t put a plan into place yet.

The only way to fix stupid, is to have them learn from their mistakes. They don't learn anything by someone telling them they did something wrong. They learn by suffering the consequences of their mistakes.

...Or...they park in a handicapped parking space because they are special, but not handicapped..Or...they take up two spaces so they won't get a door ding.

Sometimes education and punishment are one in the same! I think the big problem with people's parking and driving habits these days is mostly due to an "all about me" and entitlement attitude.

I too thought about getting free labor to pick rocks around here. My old neighbor used to do that. Get kids from Germany and then exploit them. He learned that from another guy in the neighborhood (often in the news on another matter).

Best thing is, I could be some kind of Guru.

I attended some week long retreat once. We couldn't talk and were poorly fed (and paid a lot of money for that!). That guy was smart too. Had us cleaning up leaves, cleaning the premises, even the toilets!

For about AU$1000 you can spend a weekend mustering cattle about 10 miles up the road, horse and some rough accommodation provided along with some burnt food.
They would have to pay someone to do it otherwise.
Funniest part about it is that the female to male ratio is about 3:1 and the young blokes think they are on a sure thing, almost none have ever been on a horse before and after 10 hours in the saddle carnal thoughts are the last thing on their minds with bruised and swollen wedding tackle.

Maybe they should ride double...

When people park too close to me I tend to fold in their break-away mirrors. Doesn't damage anything, but they typically don't notice the mirrors are disturbed until they're in, then they have to get back out again to put the passenger's side mirror back in place. Best part is some of the people in those fancy cars don't know that the mirrors can do that!

/ Parking etiquette #55
I fold mine in and curse when I get back on the road, having forgotten.

/ Parking etiquette #56
Mine do it automatically but I override them in the car wash.
Can be funny when I approach my car and unlock it remotely, the mirrors open out and sometimes give someone standing close by a tap.
Get a few dirty looks from some women who think their luck just changed.

Many womens luck would change if they would let their hair grow again. lol

This discussion reminds me of a former co-worker who never wanted to pay for parking, we worked at the capital campus in Olympia, parking at that time was assigned and cost about $10 a month, private parking in downtown Olympia was about $50-$70/month. It was a great deal. This guy would park in the surrounding neighborhoods in 1-3 hour parking and have to go move his car 3-4 times a day, this resulted in him spending his breaks and lunch time out moving his car around. He was usually several blocks away at best. If the legislature was in session, parking got really scarce if you didn't have a spot. If he heard i was going on leave he would try and get me to tell him what my lot/slot number was so he could camp in my spot while I was gone. On principle I never would:D. Several coworkers did and several would also give him a bogus location. There was a pretty good fine for parking tickets in Olympia and the State Patrol would fine you and attach a 55 gallon oil drum to your car if it was illegally parked on campus. I don't think he ever came out ahead by not paying for a parking spot on campus!

I forged my parking pass in College. Terrible, but it was great fun. The worst part of dating women in the city, was I would always get parking tickets! A lot of sleepless nights, listening for bylaw enforcment!

I don't have mine set to fold automagically, because here in the wilds of Vermont there is generally lots of space available. However, I DO (manually) fold them in through the car wash, or usually one of the spinny arm things will whack one or the other of them. Plus, it makes it easier to get to the payment kiosk.
