Panel Lift?

Been hunting around for a drywall lift to finish the ceiling in the shop.

Is there some issue with 12', which is what my ceiling is? Everything I can find is 11'...That ain't gonna work. Don't want to build a platform under the lift to get to the height that I need.

Can't rent either, this will take a while. Have to move cars and stuff around.

Anyone know of anything out there that goes 12'+? That doesn't cost $2000?

When I was a kid, I helped on a job where they just took 2x4s and put a wide board on the end. It took a couple extra guys, but they just lifted it up with one on each end and slid the 2x4s on the floor until it wedged the rock tight. The third guy , nailed it. Crude but it worked.

The only simple thing I can think of is some type of rolling scaffold, so you can start with the sheet up there close to the ceiling, then ether stand under it on a level that puts you at a comfort height and raise it up to position or use a home made lift or braces for that last foot or so.

Are you trying to do this alone? if so, this might not work cause you would need help getting the pieces up on top of the staging.

one of the guys has neet pics of a pannel lift he rigged to his FEL to install tin roof pannels as celing in his barn/shop.

just add 2x4 to the bucket to achive the necessary height.

Northern Tool sells a lift for $330 and you can get a height extension for it for another $100. I had a NT lift and used it for my garage ceiling. It worked okay, never had any issues with it. The are easy to re-sell when you are done with them. They also fold and break down into a fairly compact size for easy storage if you want to keep it.

There is an extension that goes on a standard drywall lift, to go up to 14'. They should have it at most places that rent the lift.

I have one of those red china made lifts. It has held up for about 750 boards but I am always replacing loose nuts and bolts - you get what you pay for, but it should be fine for occasional use.

You can find 15' lifts for under 200 shipped if you check online.

Thanks...Forgot about NT...I'll check that out. i'm doing this alone, so a lift is needed.

A lift is the way to go working alone, you can crank a sheet up and go to lunch if you want Makes it so much easier and able to get sheets lined up just so before you screw or nail.

I bought my lift from Northern Tool. I've rented them quite a few times and decided it was something that I had to have. I didn't trust some of the cheaper ones out there, like on Ebay and Harbor Freight. Mine is very solid and it works great. My only complaint is that the wheels are a little on the flimsy side. They turn fine, but they don't spin as well as I'd like, so it can be a bit frustrating moving the lift around to line up the material just right when installing it. I do both sheetrock and plywood with it, depending on what I'm working on.

I haven't bought or needed an extension for it yet, so I apologize for not being able to actually comment on your question.

Not sure of the lift height, but know they have an extension for them (or used to)

Thanks guys...The NT version is what I need, but $430 is a little heavy...May do it if I can't find another one..I guess the labor's free though.

I'm putting plywood on the ceiling of a 30x48x12' building...So don't want to use my mellon to hold the sheets up.

I did my garage ceiling about a month ago. I rented a lift at Sunbelt Rentals. (They used to be Taylor Rental) They had 2 lifts. one went to 12' and the other 16'. I rented the 16' on a Friday afternoon and returned it Monday morning for about $38.

Hubby just bought one from NT, probably the same one the other guy bought around $330 I think. He and a helper just put up a ceiling in our garage last week, I will ask if it has an extension or if it goes up that high. He used to do the 2X4 thing also but that's a lot of work. We are preparing to build another garage and he thought this would be real handy and he said he could pay for it over a few days rental.

I built one about 5 feet tall out of a pallet and some 2x2s.
I lift it with the bucket forks on my BX23.
I used it to install a 10' high ceiling in a 22 x 12 stall in one of my pole buildings.
