Pallet racks; outbuilding structure?

I recently bought some pallet racks at a very decent price. I was thinking of using them as a framework for an outbuilding for storing my implements. The racks are heavy-duty, 12' high and I have 12' long cross pieces; the racks are 3' 6" deep. My plan was to bolt the upright frames to PT beams that would sit on cement tubes. I bought 4 sets such that I would have a 2-bay area building that was 24' wide and 10' deep (if I set the two racks 3 feet apart) I Planned on utilizing the shelf on the back rack so that I could put lighter implements on the shelf while allowing room underneath to park additional implements.

I planned on making a sloped shed-style roof with 2x8's resting on the racks cross-ties set lower on the uprights front to back and covering it with metal roofing. The uprights would be sawz-alled flush with the roof framing.

For siding I planned to attach 2x4's horizontally to the metal cross-ties and uprights and then I would attach barn-board and battens vertically to the 2x4's.

I know this sounds a little unorthadox, but do you think it's possible? Do you think a building permit would be required? Do you think an inspector would grant one based on that design?

Sounds like an excellent design to me.

I've worked with a lot of pallet racking and seen some pretty extreme abuse, so I don't think you need to worry about strength & rigidity.

As for permits...That all depends on your local rules. Be very polite to all concerned & you might get lucky. A friendly AND smart inspector can be your best friend.
