I AM NOT AN AUTHORITY, BUT THE B7100 HAD A FIRST GENERATION THAT WAS MADE UNTIL SOMEWHERE AROUND 1985 AND A SECOND GENERATION STARTING AROUND 1988. TWO WAYS THE TO TELL ARE THE FRONT WHEELS AND THE GRILL. THE EARLIER MODELS ONLY HAD FOUR LUG BOLTS ON FRONT WHEELS AND HAD THE FLATTER GRILL. THIS MAY BE OF SOME HELP.

I'm sure you are correct on the 4 vs. 6 lug front wheels. The undercarriage of the earlier 7100's was painted blue. The later ones were painted gray. Also, the orange was a different color between the two versions. The last time I looked, both colors were still available in a spray can at my Kubota dealer. The later 7100HST also had brackets welded on the lower sides to attach the mid mount mower. You are also correct about the grill.

Another update... the hydrostatic unit didn't work out so. We put it back to original, installed the new parts for the steering, and it's working fine.

I'm wondering if anyone else has checked or found water in their steering unit? Or anywhere else?

HI CLARKVG: DO YOU MEAN THAT YOU DID AWAY WITH YOUR P/S? IF SO, COULD YOU EXPLAIN. I CAN'T COME UP WITH ANY WAY THAT WATER GOT INTO STEERING SECTOR. HOPE THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS A THEORY. THANKS.

No, I didn't remove my power steering. I replaced the ball bearing/steering shaft assy. Everything is working great including the power steering.

I considered installing hydrostatic steering because I was told Kubota couldn't come up with the parts until April, but they found them.

Sense no-one else has had a problem with water in their steering box, I had better check for water elsewhere. Maybe this tractor went swimming at some point.

A POSSIBLE THEORY; IF TRACTOR SET OUTSIDE OR SOMEHOW WAS MAYBE WASHED WITH HIGH PRESSURE, AND THE CENTER CAP ON STEERING WAS OFF OR FITTED REAL LOOSE, MAYBE WATER RAN DOWN INSIDE OF STEERING COLLUM INTO SECTOR. JUST A GUESS. MAYBE THIS WILL HELP.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a draglink?

This is a drag link. It is the long rod that connects the steering box to the front wheels.

I started mocking up my new P/S system today. Trying to find the best place to mount it to the frame. Seems either it's in the way of the clutch, rubs on the bell housing or the tire hits it when full turn left. Maybe I'm being to picky but I prefer it not to interfere with anything at all positions of steering and movement of front axle. I think I found the best spot but was curious if anyone else ran across this. Hopefully I can get the mount welded up this week and get hoses made up for next weekend.

YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING INTERFERING WITH ANY PART OF TRACTOR. LOOK AT PREVIOUS PICTURES. THEY SHOULD EXPLAIN.

/ P/S B7100/7200 #133
You look like you're yelling :) My setup is a bit larger. Some of those in the pics look like they may rub if the wheel was fully turned left and that side wheel was up on the pivot. Trust me, I looked at them in detail before posting.

SORRY, DIDN'T WANT TO SOUND LIKE I WAS YELLING. I DON'T KNOW IT ALL EITHER. PUT MINE ON AND NO INTERFERENCE WITH WHEEL OR CLUTCH. MY CLUTCH MISSES BRACKET BY ABOUT HALF AN INCH. MY BRACKET IS BOLTED ON SIDE OF FRAME,USING 1/2 ANGLE IRON. CYLINDER GOES TO LEFT STEERING KNUCKLE AND FOLLOWS DRAG LINK, PRETTY MUCH IN A STRAIGHT LINE. HOPE THIS MAKES SENCE.

I GUESS I AM YELLING. YOUR INSTALLATION OF YOUR P/S LOOKS VERY GOOD. I SAW THE REINFORCEMENT OF THE FLOOR BOARD FOR THE REAR ANCHOR, BUT I THINK THAT IS A WEAK POINT AND THAT MAY BREAK AND FLY UP AND HIT YOU IN THE LEG. JUST MY OPINION.

I'll take my chances on the floor board. It's actually more than a 1/4 thick where I added the metal. It does not budge at all when using the p/s. I think the front steering arm would break first.

If anyone is still following this thread I just procured a John Deere 400 valve and have never seen one in action. It is pretty clean and I hope functional. At which end is the movement that actuates the valve and is there a built in relief in this valve.

Also what is a good cylinder to use for the steering cylinder as most of what i am finding seem larger and more powerful than needed.

I am going to try and tap into the little block on the right side of the tractor. I don't have any extra hydraulics in use except foe the three point for the mower.

I assume I will still need a diverter valve. I am the first to admit I am pretty green at Hydraulic work...

Thanks
Garry
