I need to learn how to cut roads on a hillside. I had in the past used the theroy of getting the MTL flat side to side then work my way up the slope. This requires alot of backing up and swinging side to side only to loose the angle in 30 feet and do it again.

The biggest problem I have right now is the terrain i am working in is extreemly hilly. I got to the bottom of a draw today which is good as it was so steep you couldnt walk it. That was all down hill which makes it much easier. Now that I am starting up hill it is a whole diffrent ball game.

Any and all suggestions would be appriciated.

I am sure this could be done easier with a doser but this is my personal property and not a customers site so I have some play room. If I can do this with my CTL 70 things will be fantastic.

It will be interesting seeing some good experienced opinions here. I'm actually working on widening existing trails, not starting new ones. What I have found works is not to worry about the uphill side, but rather dig depth on what you have. Dig it deeper and move the loose dirt to the downhill edge. The downhill edge ends up a little higher, preserving your level working area. Since you are starting with a level spot, it may work for you.

Actually what works best for me across a virgin hillside is a mini ex :D

Make sure you start out level side to side and then keep it that way. Means a lot of back and forth and turning. :)

If you think it's justified a tilt bucket on your CTL would be the best option. Some I have seen some that can tilt 15 deg's which would make side hill cutting a breeze. If you can bush bash your way to the top of the hill and work down is best, all depends on how big your gonads are! :D

Some luck today! I got permission from my neighbor to use his road to get access to the back of the property. that climb will be much easier and then I will be working down on all the steep stuff! Cant seem to find a Bob tach around here for sale. they are not common!!
