Oops--tractor into high tension tower

Picture isn't mine but was just forwarded to me. I live in the Midwest and it sure looks like the Midwest so maybe it's from around here. I don't know but I do know it's easy to catch the corner of an implement on something. I caught my wife's clothesline; my neighbor caught his satellite dish. It happens.

You would think to be a little more careful around a high tension line. Oh, well...oops.

I worked a short while as a right of way planner. We provided at least two options for large transmission lines. I could not handle trying to convince farmers tower lines were a good thing and returned to design as soon as I could. We held public hearings where options were presented. There are lots of downsides such as aesthetics, access, obstructions to farming, weed control, health effects, and compensation.

Often when discussing ballpark figures with farmers they would say they would pay us the equivalent amount NOT to run the line over their land. It certainly does make farming more difficult, especially with some of the large equipment they use.

Someone has to do it, but I was glad to get back to design.
