I worked a short while as a right of way planner. We provided at least two options for large transmission lines. I could not handle trying to convince farmers tower lines were a good thing and returned to design as soon as I could. We held public hearings where options were presented. There are lots of downsides such as aesthetics, access, obstructions to farming, weed control, health effects, and compensation.

Often when discussing ballpark figures with farmers they would say they would pay us the equivalent amount NOT to run the line over their land. It certainly does make farming more difficult, especially with some of the large equipment they use.

Someone has to do it, but I was glad to get back to design.

I can imagine that was not a fun job. I'll bet you got a few earfuls.

Being a electric lineman that last 30 plus years I bet that operator crapped his pants when the wires fired up.

Any know what voltage these were? I guessed upwards of 345,000 volt transmission.
