Been thinking of all the reasons to buy and not to buy one.

Reasons to buy.
I can see it as a way to lay out the garden.
I can cultivate the garden before the crops get to tall, and that'll beat a few days hoeing.

Reasons to not to buy.
I can lay out the garden with my tater plow.
It's not something that gets used a lot.

TSC has one for $177. Anybody know how big these untis are? Seemed to be about 4-5', but it was not fully spreadout.

Bo,
I haven't measured mine, but it looks to be about 5 feet.

I've got all the shovels off but 2, use to put in rows w/.
5' is about right .
U can put wider shovels on it too give more cut.
How big of a garden do u plant?
A 1 acre garden would take a fair amount of time to hoe.

It's pretty big 1/2 to 1 acre. I MOWED my garden last year and took the weedeater to it a time or two, sad but true. The green beans were wonderful the corn was okay. Cucumbers were so so but many were lost on a late frost. I learned a lot.

I plant lots of sweetcorn, usually 3 or 4 passes w/ 12 row Kinze about a week or so apart except one year when dad got seed and didn't get the maturity.
Planted 2 weeks apart but 2nd seed had 2 weeks less maturity
OOOOPS, needless to say we had corn coming out our EARS /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
I picked over 150 dozen one evening and had the wife sell it the next morning (cheap).

I'm new to having my own garden, my father had one my whole life. Two years after he passed on I'd decided that green beans from a can don't compare in taste to the ones from a garden and from glass.
My mom loves to work with the garden and does a great job. I have some friends that drop by and picks some beans too.
Last year I used 1 1/2 pounds of beans and set them out the same day, so we had beans and beans and beans, and if hadn't been for zero rain in July I think I could still be picking beans.
This year I'll put out the same amount of beans but space the planting a month a part. I'll do more corn, cucumbers, tomatos, leaf lettuce and maybe a row or two of taters. I'll do the nieces/nephews some pumpkins but wait til June/July to plant them and thinking about some peppers.
