I bought the steel for this table almost 10 years ago and never got around to building it. Now that I'm getting my shop set back up, I thought it was a good time to burn it together. Top measures 40x48" and is 1" plate. I've never seen plate with one side corrugated like this. Casters are 8" scaffold style so they lock for rolling and spinning.

That ought to do it! Not only do you have a good sturdy table but one more check mark on the list is done. Congrats!

Very heavy duty...will take a pounding ! Seems though you still have that touch for making some great beads !!

Thanks guys. I don’t know why, but I’ve been really struggling with not being able to see the bead for a few years now. For some reason it clicked on this project and I could see what was doing again. Not sure if it’s the wider beads or the increased amps, but it was like I was 15 years younger and boy the beads were laying nice!

Gosh it would drive me nuts when I could not see the edge of the puddle. Get some crummy welds that way. I finally got glasses (just in time my birthday!) and they’re bifocals, so I’m thinking about trying a cheater lens to see if it helps.

Let us know if the cheater lens helps. For me the most frustrating part of welding is not being able to see as well as I used to. It makes it very hard to lay a good bead.

Nice project. 35 years ago I found a nice piece of 5/8ths" steel 3' x 4' in a scrap yard. I just flopped it end for end over all the junk across the yard and the yard man helped me lift it into the back of my pickup. I can't do that anymore!

Btw it's been a nice welding table for many years already

I found with my old eye (cataract surgery both eyes), cheater lenses work really well and flooding area with a lot more ambient light helps me see where I am running the bead.... Experimenting with headlamp on welding helmet like image below.... Seems to help...

I will swear by cheater lenses... when I first got my new welder I took it over to Shield Arc for some coaching, the first thing he fixed was my 'vision'. Get those cheaters yesterday!

Where did you get the light?

Where did you get the light?

Too much light can be a problem with an auto-darkening helmet,,,

I have a 400 watt HID lamp 6 feet above my welding table,,

There are times that the 400 watt light will darken the welding lens, like when you move from a shaded area to a lighted area,,,

I can’t see at all with my auto darkening. The old fashioned piece of glass helmets is way better.

Have you tried it outside on a sunny day?? BIG difference!!

I can see pretty good with a fixed shade lens if the sun is bright enough,,,

The leads on my stick welder just barley reach outside and it blows the shielding gas away outside for the mig. But the fixed shade is the better of the 2 for me.

What is the brand/model of your auto darkening helmet? Maybe you need an upgrade?

Great looking welding table!! :cool2:

Greased 'em before fitting the wheel spindle into the sleeves. Then realized I'd never get the gun on the zerks because they were straight. Took the wheels off and then replaced the fittings with some 45's. That's why they look new and clean.

Where did you get the light?

Right now I am experimenting with just small LED flashlight duct taped to helmet....

Sort of looking for miners or cave explorers clip on light, only objection is they have a remote battery pack and a cord which may be awkward.....

Actually using one of these right now because its light and compact....

But search for "ideal" continues...
